We have lived at Lake Chapala for over 8 years now. Have kept IMSS for emergency care only!!

Getting close to renewal time, so asking for any updated info, good or bad.

Thanks,
Fox

Go into the clinic and ask for a doctor's appointment. When we did that we found out that we had no coverage, even though we had been paying for eight years ....

Talk to Monica. She is at LCS every Monday and Tuesday. She will give you the current information.

Got it for "emergencies only" too about 13 year ago. Always did/do all the paperwork etc. with no outside assisance.

About 4 years ago needed medical intervention and decided to go IMSS route. Since then have seen many different specialsts in 3
diffferent IMSS hospitals, had lab /x-ray work in two, special study at Centro Medico, emergency admission twice, and hospitalization
over a period of several days once.
Also have received nearly all medications related to different conditions at no cost to me.

Yes, you have to be patient and polite (shouldn´t you anyway?), yes they are not "fancy" facilities, but boy, I sure cannot complain!
Of course, being reasonably fluent in Spanish goes a long way.........

Have been a member of IMSS for 16 years, me and my partner are going to our monthly appointments at the loc Clinc, people are nice and helpful, never had a problem. Using IMSS just for emergencies is a nonsense, you must use it for your health needs. Its ok to go private for emergencies if you have the cash, but using IMSS just for emergencies is a recipe to get no service when you need it. Get familiar with your IMSS and you will enjoy good service, establish a good relationship with your assigned doctor and his or her secretary, and you will be just fine and get more out of IMSS than you put into.
