I recently visited Oaxaca and am wondering how Oaxaca and the Lake Chapala are different or alike, and what the pros and cons are of Oaxaca (since I've lived here for the past 1 1/2 years)
I'd like to know if there is much crime or narco activity there, if things like food and eating out cost more or less than here, and what the expat community is like as well. And how the weather is different, and if there are enough things to do, and to get involved in.
Thank you for you input.

I think you might find the Southern Mexico forum on Mexconnect a good source of information:

A lot of the answers to your questions depend on whether you are referring to Oaxaca, Oaxaca or the general State of Oaxaca. The beach areas like Huatulco and Puerto Escondido are much like Puerto Vallarta only get warmer weather much earlier in the year. While it may be in the low 70's in Puerto Vallarta in Jan.-Feb. Huatulco will generally be in the 80's.

Here is an Oaxaca City chat group website that you can get information from. The group seems very friendly and cooperative in
answering questions. Hope this helps you.
