How do you spell expensive and overpriced? Mr. Pampas is a Brazilian steakhouse on Mariano Otero across from Plaza del Sol. After I was seated, the waiter brought 2 sauces, a red sauce and a green sauce, took my drink order and brought me a plate. There is a list of meats on the table that they serve. As with a Brazilian steakhouse, the meats are all cooked and served on large skewers, which are brought to your table by another server called a Cortero. He tells you what kind of meat is on the skewers and then cuts off some and puts it on your plate if you want any of that kind. They have numerous different cuts of beef, i.e. sirloin; arrachera; 3 kinds of filet (with limon, wrapped around cheese and another one), mollejas, chistorra and others; several different chicken pieces, i.e. 2 kinds of wings; breasts; thighs); about 5 different cuts of pork, i.e. lomo with parmesan cheese, chuleta; one cut of lamb and shrimp on a skewer. The basic price also includes pineapple on a skewer and garlic bread. No potatoes, rice or pasta is included with the meat in the basic price. I found the red sauce bland, but it was improved after the waiter brought me some Tabasco sauce. I didn't try the green sauce.

The salad bar is extra. The waiter didn't explain what was on the salad bar, so I didn't order it since I don't eat salad. I later learned that the potatoes, rice and pasta are included with the salad bar.

The meat was good, but not outstanding and they tend to give you small portions. The beef filet was deceptive in that it consisted of small pieces of very thinly sliced filet wrapped around some cheese, which was then wrapped in a thick piece of bacon, so that it appeared to give you more filet than you actually got. The shrimp had the shells on and I personally didn't like the seasoning. The best items were the filet with the cheese (despite not being too much filet) and the pork loin with parmesan cheese. The chistorra and the chicken wing were also good.

I ordered tea with no limon and found that not only was there a slice of limon on the glass, the tea had alot of limon in it.

The basic price is $230 pesos for women and $240 pesos for men . The salad bar is $150 pesos extra. The tea was $25 pesos,.

While I ate enough to get very full, I didn't feel that the meal was worth the price considering the overall food quality and what was served. I will not return and would not recommend this restaurant. There are far better places to eat in Guadalajara.

I haven't tried Pampas but Fogon do Brasil is excellent. The same concept but lots less expensive and salad bar is included in the buffet price, only drinks are extra. They have a great promotion after 7 p.m. (except Sundays if I'm correct) - paying in cash price is 100 pesos per person, sometimes they also have offers for combos (buffet+drinks).

I really had to laugh that Mr Pampas charges women 10 pesos less for their meal! This made my day. I enjoyed your review Rev!!!

Vaira, where is Fogon do Brasil? Is that the one on Chapultepec? Do you get anything, i.e. potatoes, rice, beans, with the meat or are these things on the salad bar?

Tigerlily, thank you for your kind comment. I thought it was interesting too that women pay ten pesos less. Maybe they think all women eat less.

So, apparently "Fogon" is cheaper and better. Do U have an address or website. Curious.

I don't know the exact address, but it's on Lopez Mateos Sur on the right hand side going away from the city. It's somewhere between Mariano Otero and Av. La Calma.

sorry, missed your question. the address is Lopez Mateos Sur 5062 in colonia La Calma.
the side dishes are quite limited there, sometimes cambray potatoes, sometimes rice, the salad bar definitely is a better choice.
