Schmitty's is also available at El Torito, in the dairy case at the back of the store straight down from the deli/cheeses. 2 sizes.

If you prefer low fat Greek Yogurt, make your own. Get a carton of plain Alpura Yogurt. Put two coffee filters in a large sieve. Put the sieve over a bowl and dump in the yogurt. Leave in refrigerator over night. Enjoy.

Thanks, MtnMama. Never knew it was so easy. So is Schmitty's Greek yogurt full of fat? If so, I will try your method.

I think "full of fat" is a bit harsh, but it is whole milk rather than low fat.

Be sure the milk used in the yogurt is pasteurized I have been in treatment for six weeks for brucellosis that I caught on my last trip to Ajijic.

The new bakery south of the plaza on Colon in Ajijic carries a very nice yogurt now. 28 pesos for a litre! If you want greek style, do what MtnMama says with the coffee filters. Personally, I use clean cotton sheeting from a sheet that got partially shredded in my washer.
While you're there, check out their selection of delicious breads, cheeses and cold cuts.

So today I looked at it - no expiration date on any of the containers. And - if it doesn't have an upcoming expiration date, I won't purchase it at Superlake as they carry too many products with past expiration dates. Hopefully expiration dates are carried at other venues as I really would like to try it.

PLEASE TAKE BE CAREFUL if you are buying organic or unknown brand to make sure the milk used is pasteurized .Brucellosis is passed to humans this way.
I spent eight weeks in treatment and it is not fun .
