Didn't want to hijack the existing thread. On Tuesday I found a very thin Siamese kitten and took her to the shelter. She is adorable, very affectionate and playful. If she is so cute why aren't I keeping her, I can hear you asking me. Because, I have 3 survivors of the FIP virus at my house. There was a 4th but she, unfortunately, did not pull through. FIP can be deadly and there is always the chance it could be passed to a newcomer and no cat or owner should have to go through that.Posted ImagePosted Image

I took a couple of photos of her today because I would love for her to find a forever home where she will have someone to care for her. As you can see, she is pretty bony but she will be a beauty when she gains some weight. She is about 14 weeks old and has been tested for feline leukemia.

Please consider taking her. It was extremely difficult for me to take her to the shelter and leave her even though I knew she was in the best of hands.

She's very pretty except for needing some more weight. Siamese can be very affectionate cats. I hope she finds a good home.

I appreciate your concern about the FIP. I hope your other cats are doing well.

Thanks Rev....the other cats are all doing very well and have put back all the weight they lost during the treatment period (not a good thing in Max's case though). As you know that whole process took months and was extremely difficult for all of us. I wouldn't want to take a chance on infecting another cat as the jury is out on whether or not it can be passed along when the cats are symptom free.

I will keep checking on her. She is so cute and very, very affectionate. She loves to be held.

I hope anyone thinking of adopting will consider her or one of other many beatiful cats and kittens at the shelter. When I was there a man tried to bring a box full of kittens but the shelter was already over capacity.

I met this kitten very briefly when exyyz rescued her on Tuesday and she is an absolute love sponge.

Exyyz -- you absolutely did the right thing by NOT keeping this gorgeous little girl (saw her today at the shelter, and she's a lot prettier than her photo) because, as I'm sure you've already learned, FIP most certainly can and does transfer to other cats in the house, and can survive for months even after your LAST cat is gone.

On the other hand I know a person who had TWO positive cats who survived over 2 years, and so far it appears the other cats in her home did not pick it up. Her cats had the "dry" form and I assume yours do also, as the "wet" form usually is fatal within a few weeks. And since there is no reliable vaccine against this insidious disease, better to protect this new baby than risk endangering her life.

Yes, I would take her in an INSTANT, but am dealing with a totally different health issue with one of my own cats at the moment and introducing a new one at this time has been ruled out by vets.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Natasha. My little girl who succumbed had the wet form although the other 3 developed the dry form. We thought Olivia might make it as she showed early signs of improvement, however, she just went downhill after that. We don't even know for sure how FIP made it into the house but all 4 were infected. They are indoor cats with limited access to my protected, small yard. I had never even heard of FIP until the diagnosis. It wasn't pretty and the little kitten deserves the best life she can have after a rought start. She probably looks better now after a few days of having regular food and water and care.

Update.....this lucky kitty has a new forever home where she will be spoiled, have playmates and lots to eat. A happy ending for everyone.
Thanks Rev. Did I mention visiting rights? :)

I was by the Cat Shelter the other day and they are over run with beautiful kitties. Lap a little empty? Dogs need someone to keep them in line? Need a mouser or bug catcher? Your cat is waiting. :D
Come, come, my conservative friend, wipe the dew off your spectacles, and see that the world is moving.

Yes, S., of course you can have visiting rights!

Thank you, MtnMama. You're right - they have lots of beautiful kitties at the Shelter and they all want good homes. Your new best friend is waiting for you!

Lucy is a nice grown cat who will be a great pet for someone. She is only 3 1/2 years old and is beautiful, silver and black tabby with lots of white. Too many small and very small ones to list. Go see for yourself and let one pick you out.
