This is the last week you will be able to donate money to help the famlies of the innocent victims of the May Massacre by taking your envelope to LCS, The American Legion or Viva Mexico.
Pay Pal will continue to stay open for a week longer as it came online later. The fund will be helping 10 families in dire need of help. Every peso counts!

Apart from PayPal is there another way we can send a donation from outside Mexico?

When you click on the PayPal button, nothing happens.

OK, I have figured out a work-around for that glitch.

Instead of going straight through on this window, cut and paste the PayPal link into a new window OR right-click and choose "open in new tab." Then the link will work properly and when you click the Pay Now button, it will go through.

Something to do with web site security, I think.

Has the response in donations has been OK?

Are people being alerted to donate in other ways?

I'm not being pesty--I just feel that the expat community would be as supportive as possible if they knew about the fund.

I want to thank the people who are organizing and doing this.

What happened to so many families (is it ten?) in this area is horrible beyond words. I truthfully cannot begin to imagine what they must be going through.

Thank you for making it so easy for all of us to at least do something to help ease part of their burden.

P.S. For those in Ajijic or nearby, donation envelope is in the LCS office. The woman there said they'd received quite a few donations today, but I have no idea what her definition of "quite a few" is.

A friend posted the info on facebook and a representative of a well known local group that gives seminars on moving to the area began questioning the legitimacy of it. I wonder if this is a common thought and if it is slowing down donations?

My thoughts exactly. Who is behind the "lakeside victums fund"? I won't donate unless I know. Anyway I have aleady donated personally to the families of which I know.

We thought that PayPal would be a quick, convenient and secure way of sending money for those who can not physically bring donations to the collection points. But if for some reason PayPal doesn't work for you, you can send your donation to a Lakeside friend by cheque, bank transfer, Western Union, Moneygram, or any other money transfer service. Your friend can pm or email us at lakesidevictimsfund@gmail.com to arrange collection.

Response has been positive and generous. However, we certainly understand that people want assurance that their donation will be used for the intended purpose. Please do contact us by pm or email at lakesidevictimsfund@gmail.com if you have any question or concerns.

We would also appreciate it if the representative that you mentioned would contact us directly. Kindly pass the message and our contact information on to this person. Thank you.

Lexy you are not being pesky. Donations continue to come in. The Pay Pal account is making a huge difference.
To answer Jeanne B. There is a 5 member gringo committee and two members of the Mexican community who serve as liaisons to the families. No names are being given for many reason and will not be given.
When the fund closes and the money distributed there will be a complete accounting published on this board and others as well as in the Guadalajara Reporter.
At the present time two families are already receiving psychological counseling twce a week that is paid for by the fund. A sponsor was found for a member of one of the families who would have had to drop out of the university because of the financial toll this horrific event has taken on the victims' families in addition to the loss of loved ones. His studies will be paid for.
Most families have asked that they receive monetary help to pay for the funerals. One family lost two members. When the collection of funds ends all the money will be disbursed with the exception of holding back enough money to continue to pay for the counseling for several months.
I see other members of the committee have answered while I was writing and then was interrupted.

Yes, support has been encouraging and the expat community has been very helpful in spreading the word.
In addition to our posts on forums, Jeanne Chaussee has mentioned the Lakeside Victims Fund in her Laguna Chapalac column in the June 2-8 Guadalajara Reporter. Some expats have posted information and the PayPal link on social media sites like Facebook.

Any other suggestions are welcome!

Was just visiting with 2 of the mothers (both neighbors), both who are receiving counseling. They are so appreciative of the kind help and generous donations from this group.

One of them has the son who is trying to continue his university education. They are so humbled and grateful by the outpouring of financial support that will enable their son to continue his education and eventually graduate with his degree in Architecture.

I can tell you firsthand that your donations are already making a difference and will continue to help these grieving families.
Thank you for your generosity!

Valerie :)

I deleted the post I made in haste because it did not reflect what I meant to say. I have no doubt the fund is legitimate and will go to the families. I was upset by people who were questioning the fund and hoped that more info could be posted on the donation page. I am in no way against the fund nor do I question that it is going to the families who badly need help. I worded my first post very badly hence the deletion and I hope no one starts any kind of notion that it is not a good and just cause. That was not at all my intention.

Thank you for organizing this and putting it on PayPal. We also are out of Mexico for 2 months and this allowed us to help the families. It worked easily by opening the website in a seperate window.

Please don't forget to donate if you haven't had a chance to do so. The need is immense and many of us could dig deeper to help out these families.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has worked on a way to make the donations possible. I just used the PayPal link and it worked. We are in Canada, and our hearts have been breaking for the victims and their families. A donation is a small way of saying that we are thinking of them, hurting for them, and praying for them.

The week is coming to an end, and so is the local collection. The organizers of Lakeside Victims Fund deeply appreciate the community support that the ex-pats have shown to the bereaved families through their generous donations. Many thanks also to the churches, community groups, fracs and other organizations who have participated in the collection.

The PayPal link will remain active until the end of next week.

Please help us by spreading the word during the final days of the fund-raising.
