We love your restaurant. I know many of your regulars, like us,would be upset if smoking was banned completely. Why not try it for awhile with the two sections?

I'm just glad to see you have a non-smoking area. I heard such good comments on your food so I stopped by one day but saw from my car that the patio downstairs had about three smokers. I have asthma and it's such a small area I couldn't sit there so didn't stop. Haven't been there again. So I will come if there is a non-smoking area. I didn't realize you had an upstairs.

Smoke free downstairs. Enjoyed tacos there yesterday. C'mon down and have some.

Thank you all for your comments, I appreciate that everyone is so open about the subject. I grew up in California where smoking has been banned for quite a long time and I’m very used to the idea.

I wish that people who smoke can quit.
I wish that tobacco companies stop producing and selling their products.
I wish that law makers in mexico will step up efforts to ban smoking.
I wish that people who don’t smoke respect those that are ill with addiction caused by smoking.

In the meantime I look forward to serving you the next time you’re at Lake Taco.

Best regards,

Fernando

Sadly, as there are more non-smokers in this (and any other) expat retirement community than smokers it's likely that this restaurant will find, over time, that the smokers will undoubtedly keep many potential patrons away. The opposite cannot be said. There have been comments about this being a "taco" restaurant. It's far more than that. "Taco" gives a connotation of perhaps just that..."taco"s......the Mexican super fast food. Lake Taco Restaurant/Bar is a place where people can eat/dine/converse/drink/relax and enjoy themselves for a small part of their day. If smoking patrons restrict or disturb, in any way, that enjoyment the business will definitely suffer. Unfortunately, the newly opened second floor is far more enjoyable than the downstairs in that there is more of a constant breeze, doesn't seem to be as congested and the noise/fumes from the car wash doesn't appear to be as prevalent.

Can't wait to go back to one of my favorite, frequent haunts but I'm afraid that with the breezy location, any smoking will keep me away. Fernando should poll his regulars as he said and see which way the wind blows. Maybe there's an area outside the present space where a table or two could be set up for smokers. Smoking is a health hazard to all; drinking is a personal choice; I thought people knew that.

I don't understand your logic. You say it is one of your favorite, frequent haunts and smoking has always been allowed downstairs. So how did you handle that? Now he has a smoking area away from where you will be sitting and you're still not satisfied.

I could be wrong, but a lot of the posts on this issue sound very much like an attempt to intimidate. I keep seeing the statement "there are a lot more non-smokers than smokers". Maybe so, but no one has told me where I can read the study and who ran it. If smokers are so scarce, how much smoke could they put in the air? Does Mexican law allow him to have separate areas for both groups? If so, you are saying that you don't care if it's legal or not, you want to have your way. Am I the only one that thinks that that is childish? Disclaimer: I don't smoke, have never smoked, and don't care if anyone else does or not. I do think that this piling on every time someone finds a nice restaurant and is nice enough to tell the rest of us is getting boring. There is an excellent list posted on this board that lists places that allow animals. Maybe we need one for smoking.

I always have grilled mahi mahi tacos. Yesterday I had the grilled mahi mahi burrito which had the same indrediants, but in a flour tortilla that they put on the grill. My new favorite.

Their shrimp tacos and shrimp burritos are wonderful. But then, so are their breakfast burritos. Love Lake Taco!
