for a few months now there has been a new bakery in ajijic called Lilifher. it is named for the nice couple who own it, Lili and Fernando. it has been our little secret, as they tend to sell out quickly. their specialities are bread, rolls, cookies, homemade jams, jellies and pickles and cheeses, yogurts, cream and cold cuts. we have been buying some excellent bacon from a company called Nayar and the ham and salamis were good too. the shop is located near the plaza on colon in ajijic, a few doors down and across the street from Bancomer. fernando speaks english and is knowledgeable about his products.

They make us bread to order...we asked them for Chala...they did a pretty good job...i think that they would attempt anything if they know how. I had some cookies as a gift from them the other day that where FABULOUS! nice people. They are doing take out salads as well...only Wednesdays I think.

We stopped in today. We are going back tomorrow. After trying the croissants at the new Rustico bakery on the Carretera and being sorely disappointed this was a fantastic treat!! We bought chocolate and blackberry croissants and a couple of pieces of some kind of bread that I don't remember the name of ...... yummmmmmmm! The croissants, while not exactly like the ones we are used to NOB that are flaky and a little greasy ... were very good. They were more flaky than bready and had ample filling in them. The bread was to die for as far as we are concerned. Oh! and we bought a small lemon pie that was the best I have had out anywhere. We only bought one of each thing except the bread ... and since it is all gone already we are going back tomorrow. We were told that they don't always have the same things ... can't wait to try their other baked goods. This place will definitely be on our permanent list. Please give them a try and help keep them in business!!

Went again today .... chocolate cookies, blackberry bar cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies and cinnamon rolls ... all fantastic! They also have a deli so was able to purchase some Tillamock sharp cheddar cheese without stopping somewhere else. We are going Tuesday for the homemade liverworst and provencial bread .... can't wait!

The Rojas bakery on Juarez, just off the carretera on the north east side make very good challah. The Jewish community buys them. Only with advance notice, I'm sure.
