Does anyone know where to purchase Armour Thyroid in mexico. The pharmacies seem to be unaware of this product, at least locally.

You'll have to determine the generic formulation and search for the Spanish language version, or a similar product.
If you have an MD here, ask him.

Ra27. Some information that might be useful;

Google www.drrind.com. Look for questionnaire Adrenal/Thyroid.

I don't think this item is available in Mexico.

This is off topic, but Thanks. I had a retina collapse eight years ago, leaving the right eye with minimal vision; not good enough to read anything. Then, in April, the retina of my left eye began to detatch, requiring intra-ocular surgery, as well as a new lens for cataract, done by an ophtalmologist and a retinologist. As such, I've been quiet blind since the surgery and am just beginning to be able to read a limited amount. This is going to take time. On top of that, I'm now tied to an oxygen tube for my deteriorating COPD condition. So much for 'The Golden Years'.

HI,
I don't think it is available in Mex. I did find T3 and a combination of t3 and T4 but when asked about Armour I would get a blank Maybe somewhere in Guad. I like to try it if it is available

There was a discussion of this old medication on here last Nov. and I wrote a lengthy explanation about modern thyroid replacement therapy with levothyroxine now that the TSH test is so sensitive and specific to the required dose and why pig thryoid is no longer available if you're interested in reading it:

Excuse me, but I have been on Armour Thyroid for the past 14 years and never have had problems obtaining it in the US. I obtain it in Portland Ore where my family doctor is, but now that we are living in British Columbia I can obtain a similar natural product here. I manage my hypothyroidism much better on natural dissicated pig thyroid. My doctor does blood work regularly and my lab results are stable. Many people do better on Armour Thyroid. For them, it is worth the effort to find an endochrinologist who will prescribe it.

I stand corrected...I was unaware that it was still available in some states as I was informed by the various private pharmacies in AZ where I used to practice before 2000 that they no longer stocked it or could obtain it for my patients who preferred it. Many were HMO patients and I know they didn't have it on their formulary anymore but it was cheap enough that it could have been purchased fee for service easily if they wanted it. When I worked in a holistic clinic in the mid 90's I had no problem prescribing it. It is definitely hard to find now but as you attest, it is obviously still available in some parts. I have never seen a similar product here though.

A web search on Armour thyroid turned up a few articles on its shortage being explained by the FDA cracking down on companies that sell unapproved drugs since 2008 and while they haven't totally stopped the sale of dessicated thyroid, they're making all the companies submit applications for approval which explains the nationwide shortage.

I purchase cynoplus from Guad. pharmacy It is 120/30 mcg by Grossman My thinking is if you could get a pharmacist to put it in a time release formula it would be similar in its effect. I gave up and went back to Eutirox But Grossman makes cynomel 25 mcg t3 and also cynoplus which is 120/30 the 120 being t4 and the 30 being t3 but the t3 is so fast acting that it can be very dangerous BE CAREFUL

Taking T3, the chemical form called Cytomel (generic name) is not trivial or to be played with. You should speak with a competent specialist (an endocrinologist) who would approve it for you or not. It's available over the counter here, but if you do not in fact need the T3, you can overstimulate your heart causing palpitations, tachycardia and possibly worse. Novotiral is an arbitrary formulation which may or may not do you any good. Ontario (I'm not sure about the rest of Canada, but it's likely) banned Armour a few years ago largely because the dose cannot be accurately regulated, and it is not available in Mexico.

Re: NOVOTIRAL. It has a different ratio of T3 and T4 than the Armour thyroid, so with a little calculation a doctor can approximate your former dose of both My esposo only takes it once daily, no time-release feature needed. Six years later, it is still working very well.
