Has anyone purchased the Stinger Home Defense Kit (aka bug zapper) from Costco? It comes with 2 zappers (one for interior and one for exterior)? I think they are around 500p for both. I am so tempted but would like to know if they really work, etc. Don from lakeside Express said he has them but hadn't used it yet as when I spoke with him, the bugs hadn't invaded us yet. They are listed on the Lakeside web site. Thanks, Jeanne

I have them, they work, but the inside one is noisy.

Jeanne: We've had a pair of the Stinger bug zappers for about six weeks now. The outdoor one is on the patio and we haven't had so much as a nibble from the bugs this season. The one inside the house uses an ultra violet light to attract the bugs and a small fan which sucks them into a non-toxic holding chamber. The fan makes a little noise and the light is bright at night, but no need for a night light in the bedroom and no bugs. I'm shocked every time I empty the one out from the bedroom. Dozens of dead ones each week.

A note of advise on the outside units. They collect and zap hundreds, if not thousands of bobs etc. nightly and I found if you don't either spray that "compacted" area of residual bugs with either water (when the unit is off) or blow with leaf blower the area becomes a "conductive" mat and will start arcing out and will short out the electronics, so spray off the dead ones daily if you can.

Purchased individual Stinger units (different sizes) at GDL Home Depot a couple of years ago...in nightly use every summer and still going strong...cleaning the unit every morning is an absolute must-do.....the fun part is that the insect debris attracts all kinds of pretty birds to the terraces in the early morning

Yep, nothing like fried bobos for breakfast? At one time I considered putting out half a dozen and "harvesting" the results each morning to sell as bird food or fish bait, but then came the June bug season, they are so fat and juicy they sizzle forever - uck. An additional note, I bought one of the tennis racquet size electric swatters and walked into the middle of a swarm of bobos swinging left and right and nada? - I guess they're not big enough to make contact between the two grids - but spiders sure do.
