Mommy cat is doing great ..... showing up morning and night for food and lovin' but I have a new worry ......the kittens are hidden next door in a half renovated house with a 10'+ wall and steel gates that would do a bomb shelter proud ....... it's beeing built in a typical Mexican way ...in fits and starts ...haven't seen the workers in 2 months ....I have left a note but no action
So how do I rescue them ....if it's not done soon they won't be socialized and will become feral and unfixed .....MORE KITTIES ....
I have thought of having a kid dig under the gate .....or get a ladder but a 10' drop on the other side ...plus how does manuver a box of kittens at the same time .....if he can find them in this McMansion ..........
And what are the legal ramifications ? .......I have made a Kitten box with a pillow but she jumped out ,,,,she was inspecting the casita thourghly ....that's the best I could come up with
So lets see what the marvalous muddle of mavens can come up with

At one point we had a pregnant feral cat we were feeding. She disappeared for a bit, then game back lean (actually, it turns out she had her kittens in our attic, which is a separate story). Since we were a food source, she eventually brought the kittens around when they were old enough. At that point, we trapped all of them and took for shots and neutering. If your mamma cat is tame and coming into your house, I suspect she will eventually bring the kittens in with her and they'll learn from her about dealing with a human. Perhaps you can do something to hold them inside for socialization and/or take all at once for medical work? They wouldn't be ready to neuter for several weeks anyway.

Best of luck with your new family members!

PLEASE don't nueter the males till they're at least 6 months. Their "boy parts" don't grow after they're nuetered and makes getting a blockage a huge risk. Nuetering males does not cut down on the number of litters. If there's only ONE unnuetered male left....he'll get the job done for all of the ladies.

The mother cat seems very "akamai" (smart) -- she has found someone who provides food and petting and she returns regularly for more of same.
Likely she will bring the kittens to you when she thinks the time is right. The kittens are not likely to be feral with that kind of mom. You might want to check her over for fleas and if she has them, check with the vet as to whether/when/how she could be treated, if necessary w/o endangering the kittens. If she does have fleas, the kittens will also and that would be another problem to be solved once she brings them over the wall.

I look forward to your postings on this delightful subject! :D

If I was there, what I would do is: first to call a police man or the manager of the Fracc. as a wittness, then tip a boy to get into the house, then get the kittens for them to be safe....

God bless you for your loving consideration for the mother and "kids".

All you need is love....

Doberwoman has a great idea. Thank you for being concerned about our distant cousins and taking care of them.

If you can't get to them...probably they're pretty safe where they are. She sounds like a great mom.

What is going to happen when the workers come to work in the construction of the house?, and the worst: the kittens won't be "social" and this put them in danger, and we do not need more stray cats not sterilized.......2 good reasons for the kittens to be rescued now that they are babies....

I think I did say "If you can't get to them"..... Are they still working on the house? When the workers come, wouldn't that be good time to grab the kittens?

Typical Mexican construction ...... progress when the $ are there so I haven't seen workers in months ....like Doberwoman's suggestion and I will go to the office Wed but don't expect any real help from them ........ if some one would PM me with their email , I would forward pictures of her from picasa to post and we can have a name contest .....I have tried before and was never successful
on the bright side , she is inspecting the casita for hidey holes but this place is SO small that there aren't any suitable places I've prepared ....according to her

What about a nice box with a round hole cut in the end? A nice clean towel inside and maybe some of her favorite treats to entice her in to look around?

Gravy, the kittens are pretty little for her to move them yet - their eyes aren't open until they are 8 days old, and they don't try to walk around until about 3 weeks. She is looking for a nest at your house so probably plans on a move soon. She knows how to get in and out so I would be patient for a while longer.

Also the flat people incontinent diapers are great for lining the box. Keeps any moisture away from the kittens.
Come, come, my conservative friend, wipe the dew off your spectacles, and see that the world is moving.

I second MtnMama's advice. Also, Queens (mother cats) are famous for not taking kindly to humans moving their kittens. Typical response is to move them again, to a hidden place of the Queen's choosing. We used to leave some nesting material out where mom cat could find and move the materials to her favored location.

well ....tomorrow is "gatitos day" ....arranged for the gardners to get their ladder and go over the wall ....tonight she made nice nice with Florette , my neighbor, and she's insisting she go over the wall too .... it will be nice to have someone she knows being in on the "grab" ....another Kittynapping in Axixic .....I closed her in the casita for ten minutes to go to the store and she took it well
we decided on Katey for a name as she has been responding to kitty ....almost the same and when she meows , she sort of sounds like Kathern Hepburn ........very vocal ....telling me about her day and the kittens
Again . if some one can PM me with their email that can post pictures on here , I will gmail them from Picasa
Wish us luck
