awakened here in upper Ajijic to the sound of hail hitting my roof, metallic air vents etc. No damage of course but darn it was loud. It's turned to light rain now. I think I will try to go to sleep. Gosh I love the rain. Just not the sound of hail hitting my my metal air vents. Oh well, if that's all I have to complain about, I know I'm in paradise.

I went to the window thinking maybe I should go out doors. But I'm glad I didn't. The hail wasn't that large, but it moved the plant leaves enough to keep me from going out.

I thought it sounded like hail too, but couldn't imagine it being cold enough for that! Really, you think it was hail? How is that possible?

Hail comes when it's hot and the air is turbulent enough to lift the stones high into the upper atmosphere where it is cold. Up in farm country just before harvest is when it's most likely and most damaging, a years work and crop can be destroyed in 15 minutes.

What planet are you on?
It didn't rain or hail or anything here in Joco in the early morning hours as y'all are reporting.

On planet Riberas, we had a WILD thunderstorm with lots of rain, and some hail before it started. It was a humdinger.

Here in La Canacinta west of Ajijic we had about 10 minutes of rain, really refreshing. Seems cooler this morning than previously. Nice respite from the heat.

Hail and rain and thunder on Planet Rancho too. I thought it was closer to 3:45 AM but I was bleary eyed so looked outside all the windows then went back to bed and turned off the ceiling fan. The fresh cool air was nice after the heat wave this week.

Only a trace of rain in San Juan Cosala. Not enough to wash the dust off.

The hail started a little after 3:30 in upper Ajijic. It was small at first, pinging on the glass of our skylights, then it was larger. I was concerned that it might break the glass. My housekeeper said it was all over her yard looking like snow.

In the first week of May... most unusual. But I don't believe it is the beginning of our rainy season, just a freaky storm.

....Or maybe it was sent from the Mother Ship, to confuse the populace.???

If you look at the vortex satellite it was just a "patch" moving to the NE. Once the rainy season starts the pattern is from E to W for the most part although this mornings seemed to move E to W as it passed me here and didn't make it to Joco. I think that's another characteristic of the true rainy season, it seems to build as it moves W and the Village and to the W often get more than here Riberas. But, as I said yesterday the little dab the night before kick started the rainbirds so that's a good sign.

No hail here in Chapala, but that thunder sure was LOUD rolling off the mountains! I swear my cat shrieked before she high-tailed it under the bed. Got a good dousing of rain, too, and Hidalgo turned into a mini-lake for awhile.

Isn't it great to have all these problems again? - well, not for the cat, or someone else's dog, I feel sorry for them, but otherwise. I did a round of checks during the rain to see if I needed to get out the soaker towels, but it was straight down, so no problems like we'll have later. Looks like we dropped down to a nice 59 after the shower and only 72 now, what more could you ask on Cinco de Mayo?

Supposedly two more days of this, according to weather.com. I guess it won't do much for the lake, but any change is interesting.

We got 0.6 inches of rain here east of Chapala. No hail that I noticed. BIG boomers - one hit close, the thunder followed the lightning bolt at an interval of one second or less. Electricity out or browned out east of Chapala this morning until 11 am or so,

The horsies loved the rain -- they stayed out in their paddocks and got soaked, instead of going in to their nice dry stalls.

We had a good storm in Mirasol around 3-4 AM. I don't know about the hail, didn't hear any.
