This DOG POUND is in a residential area - AKA NOT in a COMMERCIALLY Zoned Area - NOT in an SEALED INTERIOR POUND. The Residents were NOT informed this was going to happen????
We have endured 3 yrs of constant barking, many aggressive dogs charging the fencing on a residential street. If they are going, it is because these dogs do not belong here & the owner is no longer making enough peso's off the sweat equity of all the volunteers.
Take this DOG Pound to all the DOG LOVERS Residential Areas! Then you will know what we have endured! This is a sentiment expressed by the many who own dogs & walk our residential streets on a daily basis??????

If one doesn't like barking dogs, one should not purchase a house close by. Buy the house and then complain? Not good. On the other hand my friend adopted a dog stating she did not want a "barker" and guess what she got, Bark, bark bark. She loves the dog but at her wits end about the barking. Is there any training one can do to to train the dog not to bark so much? The dog is now 1 year old. Help is needed. Can the dog whisperer do anything? Thanks in advance.
Many people bought or rented their homes BEFORE the shelter moved the dogs to the north side of the carretera.

In reference to this single barking dog. There are devices, I have one that put out a high pitched sound too high for a person to hear that will often get 1, 2, or 3 dogs to stop barking. It worked in my case when a wild dog would come up to the property line of my property and bark at night (I face the mountains with only woods behind me).
But I am pretty sure that I read that if you had about a half dozen dogs or more dogs that this device would not work, you know would not work at the shelter for example.
Oh, I've been lakeside since 1997. I seem to remember that the shelter was always in the general area that it is in now. Yes, as I remember they moved what? a half a block maybe 4 to 8 years ago.

Yiou can have the dogs vocal cords snipped This does not elliminate the barking but deadens the volume. They sound like they are barking with laringitis. It is a simple operation and often results in the dog barking less.

Tell your friend to get a copy of "Barking: The Sound of a Language" by Turid Rugaas. There are different reasons for barking, and once you understand them, training becomes much easier. On the other hand my friend adopted a dog stating she did not want a "barker" and guess what she got, Bark, bark bark. I too had a barker. It takes patience and persistence. I tried the citronella collar but he figured out if he turned his head, he could still bark and not get sprayed in the face.

The neighbors have acted like juveniles. Often taunting the dogs with rocks. Have they offered to plant Italian Cyprus on the street side to block noise? NO! Have they offered to buy sound proofing panels for the dog runs? NO! The shelter has put up screening so the dogs can't see their taunters. It is a nonprofit charity (AC)
The volunteers work to stop barking behavior using the spray method. Not all dogs are barkers. As Pete says the dogs have been on the north side many years. Without this shelter the whole community suffers.

We lived on a residential street in San Antonio and had a market across the street, one next door and a very noising fencing company using the other house next door as their shop and headquarters... til midnight most days. This is Mexico, not a Sun City development. No one would buy a house next to a major highway and not expect development along it up north..
When we bought property we knew we didn't want to be near the main carreterra since traffic noise and commercial operations bother us so to improve our odds we bought as far from the main road as possible.
This area needs the dog shelter, I for one hope it stays open.

Really??? Are you kidding me?? Perhaps people with cruel, inhumane ideas should have their own vocal chords snipped.

So all the dogs who come into the shelter get their vocal cords snipped? That will help them get adopted, right? OMG.
Having the dogs vocal cords snipped was an option suggested to a pet owner who was at her witts end. Please at least read the postings before commenting. If you did a bit of research you would see that this is far less cruel last resort than having a dogs ears cropped or a cats claws amputated or some of the other mutilations that are done for the sake of appearance.
