Anyone have recent experience in getting a new phone line installed? People used to say it takes months - is this still the case? Also, which Telmex office (in Ajijic) has English-speaking staff? Thanks in advance!

There's only one Telmex office in Ajijic, the staff speak english.

Just go in, take a number & wait your turn. If they don't have a line available, check back weekly.

Took my landlady 2 years in Riberas, this was about 1 year ago.

keep us informed. 8yrs ago it took was 2 days! there was a line here but i needed an additional number. for all practical purposes it was a new cable etc.

When we got our line, it was new (no existing line) and only took a few weeks. Our rental agent helped us so that may have helped move things along. This was last July or August.

depends on your area and the availablity of new lines. west ajijic, 2010 took 7 1/2 months. told they wait till 100 new lines are requested before expanding.

Ordered one recently West of Ajijic and they were ready to put it in the following week.

i still dont understand how people can accept this. have americans gone backwards? i suppose i was lucky w/my new phone line 8 yrs back. 2 day wait was amazing, & they said 7 days- what a nice surprise. looked like things here were improving. now i dont know what to say.

They have lines. There was never any reason to take that long except to get paid "on the side" to expedite things. I noted their little game 6 years ago and called Telmex in Mexico city to complain and ask them why it took so long. They asked me if I lived in the bush, far from a telephone post or if I had neighbors. I said we were 12 in the same situation. After I answered all their questions, they could not figurre out why we did not get a line. Two weeks later, myself and 12 other new neighbors had a line.

Nothing on the side in Riberas. There was a shortage of lines in the area then they got a new exchange which helped but as I said before you have to visit the Telmex office more than just a couple of times - weekly is best. I wish I had done that sooner & I'd probably have had a line quicker.

We went into Telecable today and contracted for service as soon as they finishing putting up the cable, which they are busily doing in lower Riberas right now. Theoretically we will get a phone and other services in a couple weeks. They seem to have phone numbers available. I asked if the phone numbers are the same area code and extension and was told "yes." Perhaps that might be an option for you?

It depends on where you live. usually not more than a week. Te Office across from Buganbilla Plaza has English speaking staff members.
