And not about crime, either!

On another board some one posted that people on the far north side of Ajijic are getting some sort of official notice of a proposal to construct an Ajijic bypass running:

behind Tobolandia, over Lazero Cardenas, Priv Juarez, Las Salvias, over Villa Nova, through Rancho del Oro and out through Los Arroyos. Homeowners have started receiving notices from the town.

I can't imagine how any route would work up there but has anyone who lives in that area heard or gotten anything?

I've been hearing that rumor for the last 2 or 3 years. They are looking to bypass Ajijic so people come out on the west end.

Chapala met with homeowners this week, then Guad reps met with them as well. Doubt it will come to pass in the near future.

this is NOT a rumor: about 15yrs ago it was proposed to build theme parks along the lake. they expected 10,000 employees, you know what that means. enough said. the idea was vetoed. i wonder when or if this will come to pass. anyone know current info? maybe this should be a new topic if we get comments.

The theme park was going to be out by Vista del Lago. The developer never came thru with the money to buy the land.

When they say "over" Lazaro Cardenas and "over" Villa Nova, do they mean above or over like a bridge?

Yes, they've been talking about this for years. Government members just visited one existing condo/building site just West of Colon immediately below Privada Juarez, wanting to extend the street through a private community a couple of streets above the Carretera.

At one time they were going to try to double the size of the Carretera through Ajijic to four lanes.

The government officials seemed serious about creating this road. The property owners seemed quite sure they were not interested in selling any property for this. Sadly the government could simply "inversely possess said property paying what it was/is worth to the owners.

And no, they do not mean over like a bridge. The election is soon, so who knows where this will go.

It seems like at the end of every administration there is a flurry of proposals and even some projects get started... It's a last gasp at getting kick backs and bribes. The elections are coming up but the people working in appointed jobs will be working until January when the next administration takes over so there is still time to 'approve' projects of all sorts. The bigger the project the more money that's floating around....

I can't wait until they start, to much congestion from Chapala to Joc, also to much noise.

YES, The road to nowhere seems to be just that. Too bad they had to ruin the mountain. Oh well a few rain storms will fix that.

From Lakesidecrime.com:

March 30 - Work is suspended on San Antonio hillside development (El Travasano) by Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) for proceeeding without final permission from SEMARNAT.......The law states that if work begins before they grant permission, the procedure must be rejected because they violate the preventive nature of the environmental impact assessment www.informador.com.mx

It is good to know that someone is watching out for the environment. Our beautiful and fragile landscape needs to be protected and it is somewhat reassuring that the goverment has some standards.
