Ok, for those of us, forced by Mirasol, to access our casas via San Diego st, it's time to rebuild. Now, I notice Chapala has bought some spiffy new (ugly) street lights and are putting in stupid looking little hitching posts every meter (but no rings for the reins?) so you'd think they might consider repairing a street now and then, but 5 years has taught me not to expect it. The hole at the Carretera gets deeper every day and a nice new one is developing at the corner of San Luis.

So, what do you imagine it would cost to hire a few guys like last time and repair it? I'm in for at least $500MXD, it's either that or spend it on repairing my suspension and chiropractor bills from whiplash. Who's in for a fund raiser - would we actually have to get Chapala's permission - or just do it?

We already to had to sell our small car and buy a used SUV to navegate Paseo del Lago street that runs along the lake. We put over $3,000 US into the old car's suspension and even wiring, that got repeatedly ruined by San Diego, Av. del Pilar and Paseo del Lago. We paid to have street lights added to Paseo del Lago. We'll have to pass on donating for the fixing up of San Diego.

I understand completely, but fair warning, if I end up having it repaired, just like Mirasol, I OWN IT - and you can expect a toll booth to be in operation.

PS: I bought my street light also.

Nah, ya gotta start your own fraccionamiento first. Of course if you're rich enough you can line pockets (in addition to streets) and do just that.

The cobbles are already there on San Diego, they just need to be PROPERLY re-bedded again. It would be a great idea to put two rows of pavers in place of some of the stones so it might remain solid a bit longer.

Don't you think a group of concerned citizens should aproach City Hall and present this project for approval. Just to be on the save side. After all the streets belong to the municipality. I think this is a great idea but don't start this proyect without the written approval.

This is the same street that a bunch of citizens "modified" the topes on, without city hall approval.

You say "Now, I notice Chapala has bought some spiffy new (ugly) street lights and are putting in stupid looking little hitching posts every meter (but no rings for the reins?) ..............It was my understanding from the local Ajijic who was in Chapala while I was waiting for a bus told me that those "stupid hitching posts" are actually lights (not yet electrified) to brighten the newly designed sidewalks to improve Chapala.

Just have a gardener to drop "accidentally" some fresh cement in the middle of the night and that is all.....

If, in fact, those posts are actually lights, then three things: first, without regard to the obvious cost, lights use electricity and we all know what that costs in MX. Second, we also know what happens when bulbs burn out in MX - absolutely nothing, you only have to ask some of us who have purchased our own street lights, or have driven down the Carretera trying to guess which bulb(s) are out on the traffic lights, red? - no, maybe green? And finally, this; again if true, unquestionably catapults the City of Chapala to the top of the list in the Darwin Awards. Gosh folks, get a grip on priorities por favor.
