Just a reminder, Fiesta is this Saturday. The proceeds will go to the medical bills for the rescued colt and for his food. Continued medical treatment is needed. The colt is on the Jone's property and can be seen on Saturday evening at the party.
Buy a ticket, join the festivities, have fun, see and help the colt! Posted Image
Hope to see you Saturday, gate opens at 5PM.

I'm going to Europe tonight for 3 weeks, but will gladly donate when I return. Gudrun was the one I called when I found out about the horses and she has done a wonderul job on this. PLEASE if anyone finds info on the mare post it here. I know the gardener who said he was the owner still lives opposite where they were.

I've never heard of any good treatment for a broken leg...can anyone tell me what it is they're doing for the colt?

I had a number of horses over the years, but never one with a broken leg or any other fracture. Based on what I know about human fractures, having had 2 myself, if the fracture has healed, about all they can do is to give him anti-inflammatory medications for the pain and, possibly, a brace for the leg.

I think one of the big problems with horses is that their legs are so small in comparison to their bodies. That's a whole lot of weight per leg. Can he put any weight on it at all? If not...all that weight as he grows up must be redistributed to the other three. It's a very grim picture..I'm just hoping someone comes up with some miraculous new therapy that can do something for him. The other thing to consider is...is he in pain? Think I'll google just to see if anyone has gone through this successfully.

Not the best news. Being on three legs risks laminitis..founder..very painful. I couldn't find anything about a break that had been ignored. Here's the site I found. http://animals.howst...-leg-horse1.htm

The colt was able to hobble around which is a miracle considering that the lot the horses were on was very rocky.

The colt is in great hands. What a gem he is. After all he has been through, he is warm and friendly. His name is "Spirit." He earned that name.

I want to go back and recap a few things and thank a lot of people for their help. Primarily I want to thank the "horse people." Regino was absolutely the leader of this rescue. Without his generous donation of time and horse sense this colt would probably be dead. With Martin, or Cameron as he is nick-named, giving life saving antibiotics and anti-inflamitories Spirit would be a goner.

Then there was a cadre of you, web board members who brought food and water to both Spirit and his beautiful mother day in and day out while his rescue was being negotiated. You were major players in keeping them alive.

To those who called the horse guys peasants and other names. That was so uncalled for, but if that's what you do, then that's what you do.

Gudrun Jones of the Spay and Neutering Society. What would we do without her? Spirit is now living at her house. Even though his leg is still mending it seems not to be in pain. He plays with Gudun's dogs, but stops as soon as he sees her and actually will run to her. I've never seen that in a six month old colt.

There is fund raisng party at Gudrun's house in La Floresta. Spirit is waiting to meet all of you there. The event is May 5th. I'll post details later today as to where to buy tickets.

I was waiting to get information on how to get tickets to this event as a friend and I would like to attend. Can you post information now, por favor? Also, would we be able to bring donations of hay and or grain for the colt to this? I can load 2 bales grass hay in the back of my 4Runner, or is there a better time & place? Gracias!

Why not take the hay over to Gudrun's house in La Floresta at Paseo del Mirador #14 La Floresta. Two bales won't take up much room.

Please bring over any food for Spirit today, there is someone there to help bring in bales of hay, grain or whatever all afternoon and evening. All donations for him are happily accepted.

You guys are all really great, thanks so much.

Here's a short video of the cinco de mayo fundraiser. A video clip of the colt comes after the band.
