The police have been up and down the streets of Ajijic, they told me to close my door which I usually have open during business hours, so there might be some bad activity here later...

I'm not sure of the rest of the "rumours" and "speculation" but Artsnob sounds like an eyewitness to the police telling him something VERY unusual.

I gave up staying home, and went to the plaza, everything as normal, but there were still a few police trucks around the streets, I will keep my door closed with sign in English to ring bell for entrance..better safe than sorry...

"Fernando Guzman habited with supporters during his visit to Chapala, where he took a tour of the streets."

http://www.informado...o-acueducto.htm

"Fernando Guzmán, assumes the commitment of not to promote the new aqueduct to avoid that it will remove more water from the Lake Chapala.

CHAPALA, JALISCO (25/Apr/ 2012) .- To inhabitants of the Ribera de Chapala, the candidate of the National Action Party (PAN) to the governorship, Fernando Guzmán Pérez Pelaez, made a commitment to not promote the new aqueduct to avoid removing more water from Lake Chapala."

Could this have anything to do with it, today?

nothing. i was out between 5:15pm to 7:15pm, normal. village, plaza, & carretera. possibly the police had plans to arrest some people & a gun battle may have resulted. still this will be the retirement capital of the world, i stand by that. everyone seems to accept it, no ones packing to move. for me, i go about my business, retired or not. i am from a big multi cultural city, it would take a massive world war 3, for me to change my routine. i am more afraid of a car hitting me than all the drug chases. more have died here from ACCIDENTS on the highway. now thats a real everyday threat.

Well said Manny - thanks for your realistic and mature post. We too agree that this will be the retirement capital of the world.
A few bumps in the road over the next few years likely ..................but then..................
Cheers

My maid was in tears about 3;00 pm when I returned from Ajijic . Her husband had
had called about police telling people to remain inside. My contractor received a
call from a friend to stay away from RC. Police came by my house & advised poco
problem. I would think that focus should remain that the problem existed. It is obvious that
it did as back gate @ RC was closed and gate was being closed at RC. We should not question
posters unless we have verifiable info. During our recent invasion we have received so much
verbal & webboard info that is questionable that we should not question integrity of posters.

My husband and I just returned from the Ajijic malecon and park where we had been invited to our housekeeper's daughter's second birthday party. There were about 40 or 50 people including lots of kids having a wonderful time. Also many people just hanging out and walking the malecon. I saw a police truck pass by about four times during the three hours we were there. At no time did I feel unsafe. I don't have my head buried in the sand but I will continue to carry on my life. Everyone has his or her level of comfort.

POR PARTE DE SEGURIDAD PUBLICA ESTATAL SE NOS ALERTA DE POSIBLE ENFRENTAMIENTO ENTRE PERSONAS DEL CRIMEN ORGANIZADO POR TODA ESTA AREA AJIJIC, SAN JUAN COSALA Y JOCOTEPEC, LES PEDIMOS NO SALIR HACIA CARRETERA POR SU SEGURIDAD Y NO ESNTRE AL PUEBLO.

WE HAVE BEEN INFORMATION BY STATE SECURITY THAT THERE MAY BE A LARGE AMOUNT OF POLICE ACTIVITY TODAY WEDNESDAY 21 APRIL IN THE AREA FORM AJIJIC TO SAN JUAN COSALA AND JOCOTEPEC. RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO STAN OFF THE CARRETERA AND DO NOT GO INTO THE VILLAGE

This message has a whole different meaning in spanish than in english. especially the fist paragrah. In spanish says that bands from the organized crime will posible be facing each other, and in english says that there would be a large amount of police activity. In spanish there is not a date, at the enlish version there is. There is a terrible mistake in spanish grammar: "no salir hacia carretera"... No spanish speaker would express like that. There is a preposition missing that makes it loose all the sense...Overall the paragraph in english is NOT a translation of the spanish above... And as I read it I figure it was not written by a native spanish speaker

seems the trouble is west ajijic & beyound. my computer man was here @ 2:30pm left @ 3:15pm, then the welder guy came @ 3:45pm for about 25 minutes. then i left @ 5:15. i think they expected a gang war near san juan. MAS46 dont worry. if there are bodies they will be gang members, not a good afternoon to take a stroll.

I'd be interested in questioning whoever on the board at the Racquet Club put this together, and based on what information. My first step, all due respect MAS46, is to question the veracity of the source, not the questioners.

If you question the veracity of the source, get up here and ask them yourself. Don't expect everyone else to answer all your questions and slam someone who was trying to help out.
Sadly I was asked to post this here as a public service, it will never happen again.

I don't recall slamming you. As I do remember, I pretty much asked one simple question. It took quite a while for us all to get the answer to that question. In the meantime, several checks with the authorities flat-out stated that no such operation was underway. Your posts caused a flurry of perhaps unnecessary worry.

And might I add that I did not question your veracity, but the source: that being, whoever on the Racquet Club board emailed to the residents, with no other validating information.

That kind of message may be acceptable, if unwise, when reviewing a restaurant not to your liking.

Seven black federal police vehicles just went past our house in a close line very slowly. Whether you people believe it or not something really is happening here. All the dogs are barking more or less continually.

Helper Guy, I tried repeatedly to call the office, well I have heard that they all left at perhaps 3:15 to be with and protect their families. So, how could I possibly have given you the information you requested? I had posted that information earlier. We are in a state of extreme stress. Let's hope you don't have to go through something like this and be repeatedly attacked for trying to maybe save lives.
