Our maestro just came back to work temporarily since there was a big hole in our exterior wall. He said SJC is full of security patrols, and that the police in Joco had advised that a number of organized crime vehicles were headed in this direction from Jocotepec. I can and will call the police if anyone really wants me to. He said so far nothing has happened, but his family is safe in their house, and if we hear anything he and his guys will stay here.

Checked with State Police ( says they do not send those type of comunicationss), Jocotepec, Police and Chapala Police. All have denied anything of the sort.

I just wanted to check. Strange.

This is really weird, there are reports all over however the police station in Jocotepec claim that nothing is happening. I asked who started this and she said somebody who was bored wanted to scare people. I'm a bit skeptical that nothing is going on since our workers have spoken to police personnel in San Juan Cosala.
So, guess I will stay in tonight since there have been confirmed reports in the newspapers about murders and a Kidnapping in Jocotepec earlier this week. I think it was Milenio. Three found dead in Tizapan.

Chapala is crawling with "unmarked" white Ford trucks containing Federal police...

I just got in the door from Jocotepec; wondered why the highway was so deserted. But, I did not see any police activity or anything unusual on the drive home to central Ajijic.

Thus far in this thread, there's been a double serving of fear, a plateful of rumors, a side order of anxiety and a garnish of paranoia.

All that's missing is the essential ingredient - some zesty source-backed facts.

Heck, if there's almost no traffic outside, it could be that there's a Matlock/Golden Girls marathon on the tube. (Just kiddin', fellow retirees)

Yes, the Raquet Club Office, I can retranslate if you wish. They were warned as were residents in SJC.

I don't care about the translation, for Pete's sake. I asked where this "official" email came from. A friend, who is a reported for the Guadalajara Reporter, has been in the Chapala police station all afternoon and asked them there. They have heard nothing, have not been contacted by other official sources either gov't or police of any kind, are not mobilizing anybody.

Anyway, once again, will you please post the source of your info. Thank you.

Here is how I look at these things: From experience the local officials do not want me to know what is really happening because then they have not disappointed me by not preventing something from actually occurring. Therefore I usually lend a bit of credence to rumors of this sort because it is to my detriment to ignore them.

I'm in downtown Ajijic and it is business as normal here. Mexicans and NoB's walking, shopping and eating.

Raqeteer, would you know by any chance the source of the email that the RC secretary received with this news?

Well, all I can say is that it was an official email sent to all residents by the Raquet Club office. In addition our workers and a number of others in the area stated that the Jocotepec police had told everyone to get inside and stay inside. Apparently this also happened in Ajijic. Possibly also in Chapala. So, your guess is as good as mine. Anyhow, since that many people cant possibly be lying, I'm staying in. Period. Everyone else is free to do as they wish.

Sorry I have repeatedly tried to contact the office and the line was busy, continually. I called her first and simply reported what was going on in the SJC area. When I got the email it said from Joco to Ajijic. Which I had not been told, so I have no idea.

We were coming back from GDL this afternoon via Joco and while travelling through San Juan Cosala we saw 4 municipal police trucks, one behind the other. So we knew that something was or would be happening.

This is what happens when we have local government and police that don't regularly share information honestly. Crazy rumors take off and it's easy to believe them since the local police won't tell us anything bad.... true or not.

This thread is like holding a mirror up to the gringo community... we get a chance to see what we really think not what we'd like to believe we think.

I would be wondering how the Joco police was "telling everyone" as that is a tall order.
Some people think things are worse, and being covered up, while others think that it is less, and being exaggerated or rumor milled up. Hard to figure out who the thread helps.

Do you really think the police would tell people if they were trying to take down some operation or gang or whatever? I can see it now, the cartel phones the police across lakeside and ask if anything is going to happen and the police give them all the details.

Something's up and I suspect we'll know tomorrow or later.

Police cars in San Juan are traveling in three's on Ave La Paz in the last two hours. Didn't stop and talk to anyone that I saw. The Tuesday tiangui was moved to the Plaza instead on several streets. Don't know if there is a connection or not.
