Hello,

Anyone knows where I can buy milking cows here? Any specific breed that you'd recommend for this area?

Leaving Chapala, on the (almost halfway) way to Guadalajara, on the right hand side, you will see cattle, and a sign that says : se vende ganado. Don´t know if they can be milked (although I wear a cowboy hat, I am a fake cowboy.... and always believed milk came out of a bottle)..

When we lived in Joco, the guys who sold milk straight from the cow (forgot the name??) had what looked like Holsteins and Guernseys.

across form Coca Cola in San antonio Talayacapan, every morning their are three cows being milked,
look very healthy, two just had calfs, several locals come in the morning to drink the milk.

they are right next to letys restaurant on north side of street.

I sure they can give guidance and fresh milk, to buy one of your own.

You might also check with Rosa who owns Carnes Selectas in Ajijic on the highway just east of El Sarape. She used to be the overseeing vet at the municipal rastro in Chapala. She also is a large animal vet and knows many of the ranchers around. Also Pepe, the vet, might be able to advise you. Price range? Well, never bought a milking cow myself so don't have a clue but Rosa and Pepe will know.

A good milk cow, Pinto (Holstein), in her prime, will go for around 20 to 25K....mas o menos.
