CFE did not read the meters in our condominio in San Antonio this month, excuse given was that our meters our located on the side of each house, not the front. Now they want everyone to either move the meters or buy radio frequency meters - at our expense, of course. I know that there are many houses where the meter is on the side of the house, but still easily accessed. Has anyone heard of this? Since the meters were installed by CFE themselves within the last 3 years, I find this demand to be outrageous. Any experience with this?

Before we put in our solar electric...CFE considered our meter and connections to and from it...to be grandfathered in...once we made a material change...ie new type of meter; third phase added....the insisted we bring our location and connection up tp current requirements. We did it....the changes were not expensive.

I think CFE wants everyone to switch with radio frequency meters. That saves them the labor for someone to go out and read the meters personally. I have read of situations about this new system in the states. Some of the users complain for inaccurate readings as they see their bill escalate beyond the norm. In some instances, if the customer refuses the new meters, the power companies advised those that went that way to expect an additional cost to have someone read their meter. Just another way to collect more dinero.

CFE's basic rule is they won't go onto your property to check your meter. Have seen electronic meters here, which are guaranteed to fail regularly, but have never heard of RF meters here.

Perhaps the RF broadcaster/transceiver is built into these electronic meters.

Thanks for your replies. There does not seem to be any consistency on how CFE applies this requirement.
