Some opinions, please. What's the best time of year to visit the lakeside area ? And why do you think so.

Hands down: September. Everything is lush and green and fresh from the rainy season, and while it's still part of the rainy season, the heaviest stuff has already fallen during the previous months. The weather is perfect, really. Also, it's not crowded. And there are tons of fun things to see and do, particularly the activities surrounding Fiestas Patrias.

I love late March with the trees in bloom and the weather sunny but not yet too hot. I also love October for the clear skies and pleasant weather.

Special event times include:
Easter if you don't mind the crowds of GDL vacationers. Ajijic has a passion play that is very well done.
Day of the Dead
Mardi Gras Parade
Balloon festival in September (look it up)

That being said, there are no really bad times of the year--even thunderstorm season (peaking July-August) can be fun.

Mid April to mid June are pretty hot and dry so unless you have stock in body lotion, I would avoid those months.

I agree with September.....still nice and warm in the afternoons with nice showers at night to cool things off. the Spring time brings lots of pollen and if you are an allergy sufferer then this is particularly distressing as it's so dry that there is no moisture in the air to keep the spores from blowing around.

Anytime between July 1 and Sept 30. The rainy season is on and everything is green, plus there are great thunderstorms which happen mainly at night and I love to hear them and to hear the rain pounding down, and then wake up to a beautiful blue sky and have another gorgeous day.

I like the summer months by far the best for the rain it's generally nice and cool anywhere from 75f to 80f, daytime. The best thing about the rain it only happens, most of the time, in the evenings to the mid mornings. Afternoons are mostly sunny and again that's most of the time. Everything is green and wonderful.

If you live in a cold climate February is a good month to come but this February was not so great. June and July is also a good time to come. The first year we were here I found September to be mosquitoey. Keep away from May, I find it hot. Hope this helps.

I can't think of a month that isn't great here, but May is the hottest and driest.

Thank you. September is when I'm tentatively planning to come down.

Thank you. "Hot and dry" is relative. I'm used to summers that are in the mid-90s with humidity in the 80s so dry isn't necessarily a bad thing. Then again, there is Arizona with temps in the 100s and humidity in the single digits.

What's "hot and dry" in Ajijic ?

High temp last year was 91F. Dry means dusty. The humidity is never very high here even during rainy season. Late April to early June it's 15%.

I've always been one who loves most weather, including rains and even cold and snowy winters. In Ajijic, the only weather I have some trouble with is from mid-April to mid-June, the two months of the year when it gets really hot here from about noon till about 7:30 p.m.! It's too hot for me, so I, like many others, usually end up staying inside with the fans on and often take a siesta in the hottest part of the afternoon. That, I'm sure, is how the siesta became part of this culture, after all! Many folks here Lakeside are really anxious to see the rains finally start, usually in mid-June. There are those residents here, however, who maintain that even the hottest days aren't hot enough and that they absolutely love those hottest days. Other than mid-Apr to mid-Jun long afternoons, I would say that every other time of year here is fabulous. There are some changes in weather from month to month, and changes in how the mountains look (brown to green), etc., but it's all magnificent!

It all depends on what you are coming down for. If you are coming down to investigate the area as a potential place to retire (either full or part time), then you really need to make 2 trips.
One in the hot/dry season so you can see if you tolerate the heat. Apr & May are the hottest, and humidity is almost non-existent, nights still cool and very nice.
Second you must see the rainy season (mid-June thru mid-Oct). Yes it rains mostly at night, temperatures moderate to upper 70's to low 80's. Typically nice during the day, but the rains are not showers. They are rock & roll thunderstorms that are fun to watch with lots of lightning and thunder.
Weather here is the most consistent of any place I've ever seen and as others have said, it is nice all the time. But, if you're looking to rent or buy here, you want to experience both seasons.

The best time to be here Lakeside is anytime between January 1st and December 31st. However, for just a brief visit some people may find May to be a little too hot, although I love it.

This was my thinking, which is why we are making our first trip down now, during the time many people say 'stay away'. :)

Although now I'm becoming curious about the coldest part of winter as well, so maybe three trips.

Won't try and sway you out of 3 trips, the more the better, but winter isn't really much here. Dec & Jan this year was outside morning temps in the mid-to-upper 50's, then heating up to upper 60's and low 70's during the day, then dropping down once the sun sets. Only difference is when you get a cloudy day, which we had a few this year, and that has a tendency to keep daytime temps in the low to mid 60's. No rain, dry and cool.
