Special event times include:
Easter if you don't mind the crowds of GDL vacationers. Ajijic has a passion play that is very well done.
Day of the Dead
Mardi Gras Parade
Balloon festival in September (look it up)
That being said, there are no really bad times of the year--even thunderstorm season (peaking July-August) can be fun.

Hands down: September. Everything is lush and green and fresh from the rainy season, and while it's still part of the rainy season, the heaviest stuff has already fallen during the previous months. The weather is perfect, really. Also, it's not crowded. And there are tons of fun things to see and do, particularly the activities surrounding Fiestas Patrias.
Thank you. September is when I'm tentatively planning to come down.

Mid April to mid June are pretty hot and dry so unless you have stock in body lotion, I would avoid those months.
Thank you. "Hot and dry" is relative. I'm used to summers that are in the mid-90s with humidity in the 80s so dry isn't necessarily a bad thing. Then again, there is Arizona with temps in the 100s and humidity in the single digits.
What's "hot and dry" in Ajijic ?

I love late March with the trees in bloom and the weather sunny but not yet too hot. I also love October for the clear skies and pleasant weather.

Just missed it, then.

High temp last year was 91F. Dry means dusty. The humidity is never very high here even during rainy season. Late April to early June it's 15%.

One in the hot/dry season so you can see if you tolerate the heat. Apr & May are the hottest, and humidity is almost non-existent, nights still cool and very nice.
Second you must see the rainy season (mid-June thru mid-Oct). Yes it rains mostly at night, temperatures moderate to upper 70's to low 80's. Typically nice during the day, but the rains are not showers. They are rock & roll thunderstorms that are fun to watch with lots of lightning and thunder.
Weather here is the most consistent of any place I've ever seen and as others have said, it is nice all the time. But, if you're looking to rent or buy here, you want to experience both seasons.

It all depends on what you are coming down for. If you are coming down to investigate the area as a potential place to retire (either full or part time), then you really need to make 2 trips.

This was my thinking, which is why we are making our first trip down now, during the time many people say 'stay away'.
Although now I'm becoming curious about the coldest part of winter as well, so maybe three trips.

Won't try and sway you out of 3 trips, the more the better, but winter isn't really much here. Dec & Jan this year was outside morning temps in the mid-to-upper 50's, then heating up to upper 60's and low 70's during the day, then dropping down once the sun sets. Only difference is when you get a cloudy day, which we had a few this year, and that has a tendency to keep daytime temps in the low to mid 60's. No rain, dry and cool.
