Bisbee Gal Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 We tried Jasmine's for the second time last night. Our first taste was via take-away a few weeks ago; last night we sat in their back garden. It's not fancy, but the grass is green and the stars twinkle overhead. The food is great, the hosts are wonderful and the music is very good. It's a short menu; but the 'base' meal is a vegetarian platter that is full of flavor and variety....individual servings of lentils, spinach with paneer, potatoes, cauliflower, peas, rice, etc. That goes for 70p. With chicken curry added to the platter, the charge is 90p. They were featuring lamb kabobs last night and adding those to the basic vegetable platter brought the meal price up to 100p. We ordered their homemade garlic nan (15p)....it was large, hot and tasty! Beers go for 20p. Most of the "heat: is found in the chutneys that are served on the side. They make their own and all are terrific: pickled lemon; cilantro; roasted tomato; and date. If you need more chutney for a higher spice level, just ask, they are very accomodating. The music is very nice and the owner has been teaching locals how to play Indian instruments; he does not charge for these lessons. We sat outside and the music was very muted; but even when we entered and exited, the music didn't strike us as overbearing in the indoor dining area. It's a nice family run, friendly place (if you sit out back, you can watch everyone working in the kitchen, and all seem to be having a great time). The service was excellent. We are grateful for this addition to the Ajijic restaurant scene.
artsnob Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Does Jasmines allow dogs, I am adopting one today and have to check out all the dog friendly restaurants...Any other suggestions
Bisbee Gal Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 Jasmine's is on Calle Parroquia in Ajijic (that street becomes Hidalgo in the next block). It is directly across from the south side of the Ajijic Plaza, near the "dollar store." Open Friday, Sat. and Sun, from 4 till 8.
