My friend and I are both due for mammograms. Is there a Dr or clinic who has this equipment lakeside? I'd rather not drive to Guadalajara for it, but will if necessary.

I was advised by my doctor here that I should go to Guadalajara for a mammogram. It is a pretty important test and the best people to read the results are in Guadalajara.

Maryloly has a comfortable cross-over van and provides travel from Ajijic to Guad and back, If you are interetsed I will have to contact my contact because I don't have her information right at hand. I whole heartly agree GO to somewhere in Quad for mammogram. Care has a place as well in Guad.

Puerto de Hierro will send a driver/taxi to pick you up in Ajijic. Ask when you talk to Lissu - don't remember the price but the driver met us (two of us) at Farmacia Guadalajara. You'll have his cell phone # to let him know when you are ready for the return trip.

The last time I had a mammogram it was in Guad, but can't remember the place. Also had a sonogram there. I will find out where it was but think all labs that do mammos probably do sonograms too. I will post later.

Please don't ever have ANY important tests like the ones above done locally. I made the mistake of having my tests done locally and got great reports ony to find out that I really had Stage 4 (terminal) breast cancer. The doctors and facilities in Guad have the expertise needed!!!

I go to Dr. Villareal in Guadalajara for my Pap and breast exams. I used to get the mammo done first in Pto de Hierro. But then he said he prefers I have the exam first and then if he finds anything he's concerned with, he can pinpoint it for the mammo. He also said that although he thinks the mammo and digital machines at Pto. de Hierro are good, he´s not been happy with the radiologists' reports. So, now I go to him first, and then go down the street to the lab nearby that he has confidence in. If they find anything they aren´t sure of, they do the sonogram at no extra cost. The reports are sent directly to Dr. V. and he lets you know the next day about the results.
There is a lab in his building where you can drop off the PAP but if it isn´t open at the time, you go across the street to del Carmen where there is another lab he has confidence in for Pap tests.

Tigerlily....I would agree with you...now that I have had the experience of spending time in a hospital here with kidney stones this past December, I would go to Guad for just about everything...much better equipment. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I know getting things done in Chapala or Ajijic is very convenient but the lesson learned is, you do not buy back time and if the Dr. you take your tests to does not have a clear image, or the expertise you pay the price.

Absolutely agree about going to Guad. A friend of mine had a colonoscopy done here arranged by a very popular doctor. Report came back clean. A few months later after having some bleeding, she had another done and found she had stage 4 colon cancer. Her oncologist said if it had been caught on the first exam, all would be fine. Because of the delay, the cancer spread to her liver. I would never have these important exams done locally.

I see a breast specialist in Guadalajara and he sent me to a clinic for a digital mamogram plus an ultrasound - that was done by a specific doctor because he believes she is the best at breast ultrasounds. Dr. Beatriz E. Gonzalez Ullea - you have to ask for her specifically. The clinic is DEI - phone 01333 121 9913 for an appointment.

They tell you to bring your old mammograms. And you will need a doctors prescription (I think - at least I had one).

I haven't been yet because it turned out I needed to have a CT scan for something else but I have nothing but praise for the clinic, radiologist and technicians that I went to in Guadalajara. They were extremely thorough and being from Canada I just couldn't believe how quickly I was able to get an appointment. It was for the next day. As I understand the situation here, they might have some of the equipment but there are no radiologists to read the results of ultra sounds or x rays.
