Mainecoons Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 We were initially headed out to Simply Thai this evening but it was closed so down the street and around the corner we went to Ives. Ives special tonight was Atun Asado, seared tuna, which I ordered on fettucini in white sauce. It was simply excellent by any standard. I love my seafood and I really enjoyed this dish! Mi esposa the committed carnivore ordered the fillet which she pronounced every bit as good although she forgot to order it more rare than it came. For me it was perfect and easily cut with a fork. It was delicious. As always, the salad bar was fresh and varied. We enjoyed each a glass of red and white wine, which was a good pour and clearly not jug wine, if not real cheap. The white sauvignon blanc was nicely chilled. Service was attentive and consistent throughout the meal without being overbearing. The views from the first floor along the front were superb of the lake and our very popular Malecon. Ives visits all the tables of the patrons and makes sure that things are OK. Combining the very good and well presented meals, capable service, the graciousness of Ives and the wonderful views of lake, sunset and Malecon, this was a special evening out by any measure. Our bill with tip came to 500 pesos. Not cheap but well worth the price to us for the quality of the food, wine and dining experience. Snowbirds, do not leave town without enjoying Ives! We went at 6 so we could watch the sunset over the lake. I was impressed with how many people were out enjoying our Malecon. I want to put in a word for local realtor, Tom Barsanti, who personally keeps the taggers at bay on the Malecon. Because of him, we can all enjoy the new and beautiful Malecon without being marred by tagger vandalism. He has been doing this without letup for nearly two years. A special thank you to Tom for banishing the tagger vandals from our Malecon! In our household, Ives gets two thumbs up!
artsnob Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 We went there tuesday nite, having escaped the loud music of Las Telares, we had the same thing you did, we go there alot, and I am fussy, and never had anything to complain about there....I think he spells his name Yves tho, I have known him for over 20 years, he used to have a restaurant on Galeana around the corner from my Casa...
gringal Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 We had a late breakfast there today around 11:oo with some vegetarian friends and all enjoyed the delicious spinach, mushroom, and cheese omelets, served with home fries and in our case, sausages. Always the good vibes and the great view. Good value for the money. Plus, Yves has good musical taste....CD's..not too loud; just enough to add to the ambiance.
Mainecoons Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 OMG, you're right. It's Yves. Oh well, a fine dining experience no matter how spelt!
Kevin K Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 Thought I'd resurrect this thread to nominate Yves as a strong contender in the perennially-popular "Best Burger at Lakeside" category. I think it was gringal that recommended their fries, but the burger, char-grilled, excllent quality and quite large, is certainly the best I've had locally. It's only available at lunch. I'm a fan of the Early Bird as well, but the burger at Yves is easily twice the size (I'll split it with my wife and take advantage of the salad bar next visit), fries that are nearly as good as EB's are included in the 75 peso price (vs. a 25 peso charge at Early Bird for a skimpy portion), and the atmosphere at Yves is unbeatable (and you can get a nice glass of wine or beer with your meal along with the view). Delightful place, can't believe we waited so long to try it.
