A friend is going to PV and wants to visit Lake Chapala for a few days. He wants to know the approximate cost for a round trip flight and round trip on a first class bus form PV to here. I have no idea and aren't having any luck with the search fuction here.

Check out www.etn.com.mx for prices. 7 months ago it cost me a little less than 800 pesos RT.

Unfortunately, I think only AeroMexico is flying between PVR and GDL currently, and airfares reflect that there is no competition. Unless your friend gets lucky, it will probably be a lot more affordable to take the bus.

If you have an INPAN or DIF card is the bus fare 50% off?

They will do this for a limited number of seats, I am told.

Our housesitter in November managed to get good seat prices between here and PV by air. Not sure how she did it.

Thanks. Where is the terminal in Guadalajara that ETN uses?

The Camionera Nuevo is where the long distance buses are located. Take a taxi from Ajijic to there, about 450pesos or take the direct bus from Ajijic to Guadalajara for 45 pesos/person. Get off at the first parada, the direct Guad bus stops at in Guad and then take a taxi for 50 pesos to Nuevo Camionera. This bus station seems to be bigger than the international airport in Guad. Reverse from the Nuevo Camionera to Ajijic, is a little more difficult. The best way is for a taxi back to Ajijic. The other alternative is to take an hour trip from the bus station, by bus for 6.5pesos/person, to the central camionera where you get a direct back to Ajijic. That trip takes at least 2 to 3 hours from Guad to Ajijic, where the taxi takes about 1 hour.

Oops! I should have been clearer. I will have to drive to the bus station to pick him up. So I wonder where it is?

I just returned from R.T. on ETN from Ajijic to P.V. The bus was amazingly comfortable, roomy, touch screen t.v.
Bathrooms were very clean, the airlines could take a lesson. there were only 8 people on board one way and 3 the other. The scenery was beautiful. Cost 800 pesos. I booked here in Ajijic where you can choose your seat and avoid lines when at the main (huge) terminal in Tonala/Guad.. They even give you a sandwich and beverage for the trip. It was an outstanding value.

That's an INAPAM card, and the fares are definitely 50% off. We have a friend in La Manzanilla who is taking a first-class bus round trip to Guadalajara for Thanksgiving at $450 pesos.

I have travelled this route several times and use Primera Plus bus line. Great, comfortable buses, all the services and only 352 pesos each way.

How did you take an ETN bus from/to Ajijic. I have been told I have to travel into Guadalajara to catch an ETN bus?

There are now two additional bus terminals for people going to or from PV and GDL. The newest one is on the periferico sur near the big ELECTRA store which we have only seen the signs for but have not used. The other is on the extension to Ave. Vallarta just past Ave Aviacion. We use this one which might be a little farther than the main terminal but it is so easy to get to and from and parking is easy so we find it very convenient.
