We will be seeking a rental house for a 12 month period in order to acquaint ourselves with the area. As owners of several small dogs, what can we expect to encounter as far as willingness to rent to someone with pets?

If you can get a reference from a previous landlord re the good behavior of your pets, it would probably help.

I looked at about 15 houses before I rented one about a month ago, and I've got one good quiet dog "de diez kilos."

It's like anywhere else. Many ads say no pets, so duh don't bother. If they don't talk about pets, I'd bring it up at the end. Some would say no, some would hem and haw and eventually say okay (or not). A few didn't mind. The place I finally did rent said that their policy is maximum of 3 pets per house, but when I got to the lease signing they said it was 2. In any case, I only have the one (but may need a spare, hee hee).

If you have large dogs or they are boisterous or loud, obviously you will have a lot of trouble.

Where am I going, and what am I doing in this handbasket?

We ALWAYS bring up our pet from the beginning - whether it is a rental, hotel reservation, B&B or home exchange. Who needs the hassle if an owner doesn't want pets (which IS understandable).

We send photos of our dog, which verify his breed and size. We offer references from prior Landlords. I took Riley to obedience training - and offer to provide his certificate proving he passed his Canine Good Citizen Test. He is crate trained, and I verify that,

With ALL of this, we find far less problem finding rentals for our 21 pound, rescue, nonshedding rescue in MEXICO than we do in the US.

Much easier to find hotels in the US - hence, the reason I started the website in My signature below.

We rent our home to people with pets. The entire home is tiled, as is the courtyard and garage area. We have no issue with pets. The home is currently rented, so this is not a solicitation for tenants.

Several - more than 2?

Some fraccs have bylaws that only allow 2 dogs per household. Mirasol is one and I think LaFloresta may be that way too.

I'm glad to see that Zerbit realizes that with tiled floors the pets shouldn't be a problem. Obviously, some landlords are now understanding that pets aren't a problem and are more accepting of them. When I looked at this house, the rental agent didn't even blink when I told her I have 4 cats (the house is unfurnished and has tiled floors). Since cats are quiet, the noise is not an issue.
