I was awakened last night by a horrible crying on the road outside my window, so out into the pouring rain I went to find the cause. It was a little dog, soaked through, in terrible pain and having trouble moving. I brought him in & put him in a dog crate, wrapped in a thick towel to keep warm, but he screamed in pain nonstop through the night. This morning,I found him locked in seizures one after another, and knew it wasn't good. I took him to Pepe's clinic & he confirmed that the poor little guy had distemper, which causes horrific pain in the head and all over. There is no cure. He had to be euthanised to end his terrible suffering.
I am thankful for Dr. Magaņa being there to deal with these helpless creatures who need our help to do what is best, and I am also thankful I had the presence of mind to keep him apart from my 3 dogs as Pepe says distemper is very contagious and deadly. I will be sterilizing the crate and bedding right away. If only his owners had taken him for innoculations, this would never have happened. Please, everyone with dogs or cats, there are many awful diseases out there but with proper vet care, this doesn't have to happen to your loved ones. For a few dollars, they are safe.
Sad ending for little dog today...

What a terrible story. Kudos to you for caring...........The little dog would have known that in his pain and final hours, he was loved by you!

Seems to be a surge in Distemper lately. We have had several recently brought to the Shelter. Since the vets across the street see anything BEFORE we bring it into the kennel we kept it out of our population. In the states they now say revaccinate every three years but here we do it yearly because of the infectious diseases here. So yes if your kids are not vaccinated get them vaccinated !!
