I had excruciating trigeminal pain for years until I found this chinese acupuncture doctor in Florida and I had not have any since 1987. His name is Dr. Li and he has 2 offices in Fort Lauderdale. One in Federal Highway; south of Oakland Park Blv. and another in Sunrise, almost on the north corner of Oakland Park Blv. and University. The Medical Complex is call Belle Terre. For me, he is a miracle worker.. I bless the day he was born. He saved my live. I was in a deep depression and having suicidal thoughts. The pain was so debilitating that all I did was cry and wait for the next one. He changed my life. I lost the count on how many times I had to stop my car at the side of the road and wait(crying) until it went away. I had to be carry away from the movie theater, a couple off times, by my husband and the manager of the theater. I was very lucky.I suffer from debilitating migraines which are caused by my neck problems but I also get them a lot more in summer due to humidity and barometric pressure, I came to Lake Chapala for 3 weeks in June/July to see if your weather would help, and didn't get one headache, I have been back in Florida for about 3 weeks and have had my usual 4-5 per week...it is definate I will be living in Chapala June thru September each year.....see ya soon.....Moe... ps... hi to all my friends I made while there this year hope you are all well.....pm me.....
Since you are in Florida, give him a call and try his acupuncture. What do you have to loose but the pain?

Doberwoman, I don't know if you've got a bizarre sense of humor or what. People are talking about being in PAIN. What's with the hahahaha? (that's a rhetorical question, btw)

My wife experiences flashing lights in her eyes prior to getting a migraine. When she sees those lights, she immediately takes a 20mg Inderol tablet. The Inderol takes away those symptoms and prevents the migraine from happening. Works 100% of the time. Inderol is available over the counter, at Farmacias Similares and all other pharmacies, and costs practically nothing. Ask your doctor, if you haven't already tried this medicine.Doberwoman, I don't know if you've got a bizarre sense of humor or what. People are talking about being in PAIN. What's with the hahahaha? The two people I know who had debilitating migraines in the states, haven't had any since moving here. Maybe the altitude. As soon as they returned to the US for a visit, they came back. Another reason not to return.
I too used to get debilitating migraines. Probably due to many things, extreme stress, chocolate and allergies. I now manage the stress in different ways, gave up chocolate (bummer) but can't escape the pollen (Austin, TX) yet till I possibly move to the Lake Chapala area. How is the pollen there? Do people have bad allergies?

My mother, a R.N., a true believer in "western medicine" had them for 30 years. She, almost as a last resort, went to see a Dr. of TCM (traditional chinese medicine) and acupuncturist. ONE acupuncture session - gone- they never returned, ever. She thought these doctors (yes, they are fully qualified doctors) were Quacks.
Now, I go for my acupuncture, massage tuneup biweekly. Dr. Edward Fung (Dred for short) is my lifeline. He keeps me tuned. Occasionally, for whatever, he prescribes some chinese witches brew of herbs that do the trick. He's huge into antioxidants, etc. His Japanese wife even cooks with chia seeds. He's now in my will. Yup.
So, here's hoping there's a good Dr. of TCM/acupuncturist Lakeside. I'd travel to Guad biweekly if necessary.

I may be opening a can of worms here but please people, some of us get really ill and it's not in our imagination. Other than that, I will agree with the other posters that there's something about living here that seems to reduce the occurence of migraines.

Get used to this kind of marinating. For latinamerican women perfume is part of them being a woman. You are in a minority here; women rule, so next time move yourself away from the offender. I do get ill with strong smells like perfume and my solution is to put a distance. I don't agree with people going to a dermatology office or allergist with scents of perfume or cologne but that is as far as I go. My husband and I always have respiratory problems after January until the rainy season begins.Boy can I relate to these posts! My migraines were always related to neck problems as well as airborne allergens; I never knew which one was going to get me. They've subsided dramatically since moving here four years ago probably due to lower stress levels which caused the neck pain to worsen. The biggest problem I have here is people who get out of the shower every morning and then proceed to MARINATE IN COLOGNE!

My headache triggers include perfume, MSG, nitrates, sulphites, dust and anything that offgases like a manmade carpet or drywall.
I rarely have headaches since moving to Mexico. The construction of the homes and the natural, healthy foods have a lot to do with it.

Boy I agree. I can't wear cologne. Some people have soooooo much on I have to run away, far away so I can breathe.
