moonhill Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I need last minute opinions from readers that like to eat out. My husband and I don't eat out very much because it seems like 80% of the time we're dissappointed. I love to cook and am told I do a very decent job of it, so when we eat out we're hoping for a pleasant experience, otherwise we might as well have stayed home. Can I get some of your opinions on which restaurants you would recommend for consistent food quality, good service, and fair prices? I think Number 4 might be out of our price range, and we like to avoid places serving primarily gringo comfort foods (I make a mean meat loaf myself). We already love Ajijic Tango and Tony's, but we can't keep going to the same places over and over. Today's our anniversary and I don't feel like cooking. Thanks

Thanks I have always enjoyed Number 4 and found it to be very reasonable for the quality and atmosphere. It would definitely be my choice. Caveat--I haven't been there for six months or so.
Doolittle Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 For the criteria you listed I would recommend 1) Hacienda Ajijc for Beef, Lamb, and Rabbit. 2) Tabarka for fresh Spanish style seafood, and 3) Robertos for a wide range of cuisine including American and Mexican style seafood.

For something different, there's the new Thai place: Simply Thai:766-5665 on Ramon Corona #11 (catty corner from the LCS gate, two doors down from Benno's on the corner. Delicious food, beautiful environment. You'll need to make reservations. They are popular. Happy Anniversary.
tomgates Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I think Doolittle's suggestions are sound. We ate at No. 4 last week and it was outstanding. Food for 2 was about 600p ( I had 2 entree's ) It is the best restaurant in Ajijic from a food presentation standpoint. tg
Guest Gringal Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I'm always amused when an OP asks a question and gets a answer which includes what she excluded in the first place. She mentioned that the $$$$ aspect of #4 was not appealing and that she's interested in something other than expat comfort food. So..........it's "go to #4; it's worth it." It may be, but I don't think they are open on Monday. Best to check. I know that the Thai place is, since I had lunch there today. Chuckle
moonhill Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Posted March 9, 2010 We decided on the new Thai place, and WOW! We just got home and I would highly recommend it. They squeezed us in with no reservation, but it was filling up as we left. Thanks for all the input.
