the walkers Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 we've known reuben over 10 years and have always enjoyed his hospitality. he always puts together a tasty meal in a beautiful setting. we were concerned about his move to ajijic from san juan and wondered how he was going to make it. we are no longer worried after visiting his new place. it is in the building on the carretera in ajijic housing the change of pace gym upstairs. the same doorway, but go directly to the rear and an incredibly beautiful inner courtyard appears. much nicer than the palapa at ajijic tango ,more like the nueva posada's terrace. and some private glass inclosed rooms to keep you warm. reuben serves breakfast for about 55p, lunch for 75p, and dinners for 125p. don't forget his spanish lessons with breakfast on saturday mornings.any constructive criticism is welcomed as reuben plans on being there for a long time...this guy is amazing, the amount of positive energy that he has. not only this new restaurant, but he is involved with mama chuy's in san juan cosala. mama chuy's is a spa, casa de eventos, and condos and b&b all in one. reuben is doing the food and as always , is willing to sing you a song.
newinajijic Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I would like to see some reviews on his restaurant as the last time it was discussed here the reviews of food was mediocre. Isn't $ 55. pesos a bit high for breakfast? $ 75 pesos for lunch? Ajijic Tango has many Lunch specials for $ 50. pesos. PANINO has hot lunches for $ 68. pesos, homemade soups and salads. ROBERTO'S has many lunch specials for $ 80. pesos that include soup or salad. ROBERTO'S is NOT CLOSING. BOSTON DELI has dinners for $ 45. pesos. I believe $ 125. pesos for Dinner is high. Check Ajijic Tango, Hacienda Ajijic, Armando's, Roberto's, etc.

BTW, Ajijic Tango has raised the bargain lunch to $55 pesos.
newinajijic Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 There has been a rumor going around about Roberto's closing, so much so that he took out an ad in the GDL Reporter that he is not closing. And the bargain lunch at Tango for $ 55. pesos is still one of the best bargains around. There's no one in Ajijic that cannot afford a $ 5 peso increase.
michigander Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Good to hear that Roberto's is OK. That was one of our favorite places on our recent trip to Lakeside.

I thought the food was "OK"; not bad but nothing special.

All that for 75pesos was a bargain.
Doolittle Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 The point is moot, John doesn't eat Mexican food.
