Oops, our Mexican car insurance ran out yesterday (originally made in USA to cover the car in Mexico). I need to pickup a local insurance this week. We have a US registered car, US an UK drivers license.

Any suggestions on a good reliable agent and insurance company around Ajijic?

Thanks!

I have been doing business with Rachel in Chapal for 9 years, no problems. She handles a few Insurance companies. I am with Qualitas who gives better benefits than some other Companies.

We switched from Raquel and Qualitas and ha've used AXA and Jesús Tejeda for the past several years. Been terrific, comes to your home, takes time to answer questions and explain. Great English also.

Also, you might want to check out DiscoverBajaonline.com. I've been using them for many years, and get consistently better pricing than locally. And when I had the one big accident, they paid Roberto's directly for the repairs. You can get quotes from several companies via their Webpage: http://www.discoverbajaonline.com/

If you want an agent who will go to bat for you go with Parker. Eight years and three accidents!

Hi thanks for all the info, its great but can someone please give me the email / contact info etc of Parker insurance. Just want to compare a few insurance companies rates, coverage etc. I didn't go further with DiscoverBajaonline.com because of their $40 sign in fee. I know, probably a wrong decision....

The Insurance Company is far more important than the Agent. It is the Company who will be paying your claim, not the Agent. Pick a good Company by asking questions here.

You can't go wrong with Parker as they have many clients Lakeside.

Had friends that went with Rachel, they had an accident the adjuster never showed.
We tried to get her to insure us before we entered the company, no response to e-mails.

We had AIG but have read too many bad things about the company.

This year we signed up with Lloyd's they seem reputable. I guess we will see.
Got a quote from Parker and they were pretty high.

if you are living locally, but insurance locally, you will need an experienced agent to go to bat for you if you have an accident or worse.

find someone whose family is in the business for many years. the fees are about the same. but make sure you get the best coverage money can buy.

buy a yearly policy and save money, extra liability, and low deductible packaged just right didnt not cost extra.

Here's my final take on the auto insurance companies.

I requested quotes from 5x companies.

1. Parker = got an immediate reply $456 p/a

2. Seguros AXA Jesús Tejeda Mejorada = got a quick reply $350 p/a

3. San Xavier Mexico Insurance Robert Acosta = quick reply $325 p/a

4. ANA Seguros (Lloyds) = dropped in at their office, they quoted $673 p/a - I remarked this was very high they promised to look into it, I sent a follow up email reminder, but they never replied.

5. RAQUEL REYES INSURANCE - sent two emails and left one phone message, heard nothing from them.

It's a bit like pulling teeth, it took several emails to get enough information to be able to compare the quotes. I finally went with Seguros AXA. Because communication was easy and their terms were better than the cheapest, San Xavier.

Trust me on this one Limey - it'll be worth far more to you to have a competent, on your side, local agent than the $25 extra you are paying. Plus AXA gives you glass coverage, and the internet policies usually do not.

When my car was stolen a few years ago, Jesus Tejeda went to bat for me way above the call of duty. He even came from Guadalajara and went with me to the Ministerio Publico when they had omitted something from the original report. He also did a lot of extra things for me to get my settlement. I use him for my car, house and health insurance.

I have been with Rachel (RAQUEL REYES) for 9 years. She sends me an emal a couple weeks ahead when my policy is due.

She was outstanding last year when I had my one and only accident which was clearly not my fault. It took her 4 1/2 months to get AIG Insurance to pay me after they lied thru their teeth to me. She called them and sent emails constantly.

Needless to say, I am with Qualitas now, who gives better coverages than most of the other Companies. Lower deductibles and higher Medical Reimbursements.

Not ALL insurance companies are the same. They vary greatly in Mexico.

My plan was to use Reyes, but unfortunately it just didn't pan out. I have been fairly diligent researching, and for my needs the company I selected seemed to be the optimum. Fingers crossed!
