Ricki's Sushi & Thai is #27 and he is north of the caraterra. maw
Bisbee Gal Posted November 9, 2009 Author Report Posted November 9, 2009 Thin crust and south of the carretera. West side of street. There's a sign out front.
Travis Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 It's good stuff. We had one delivered to our house a week or two ago. I think he may need to shrink his delivery area though.....when I answered the door it was the owner and his little daughter! The "garlic infusion" thingy he does is tasty!
lardca Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 We had one delivered as well. It was huge and very nicely done. Quality ingredients and just the right mix. Nice crust, too. Thin. We'll be repeat customers.
Doolittle Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 We had a pizza from Don Vito last night. It was the best pizza we've had here and we've tried them all.
the walkers Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 how did he deliver the pizza to you? his driveway and the street are blocked by the street stalls set up for the festival. maybe we'll give a call, the garlic infusion sounds great! I picked up the pizza myself. The place looked very nice, next time we'll eat there.
TioBob Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 My wife and I agreed that our pizza was the best we have had lakeside. It was huge, we planned on taking some home. We were shocked, someone ate the whole thing. It was us. Others around us were gushing about theirs as well. We shall return. TioBob
Travis Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 As mentioned earlier in this thread, we had a pizza delivered several weeks ago and it was very good. Last night we decided to eat there. This pizza was flat-out fantastic. We're lucky in that we live close enough to walk to it. But even if we couldn't, we'd get ourselves there. This is destination-worthy pizza, and gives you-know-who in Riberas a definite run for his money. (And I love Toscana.) The kid waiters are cute, too.

ballbabe Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 What pizza do you recommend and if one was to order a number of pizzas do you think he would deliver to Chapala?
Travis Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 We had the Bella Italia. Just call them, even if you can't speak Spanish there's plenty of English on the other end. I'm pretty sure they printed their menu in one of the local publications as an ad, maybe the GDL Reporter? Anyway: 766-3604 I just found out that the owner is Pepe Villalobos, the good-looking singer. Ha! That would explain why the 9-year-old-or-so kid who waited on us looked like a child actor!
tigerlily Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 What pizza do you recommend and if one was to order a number of pizzas do you think he would deliver to Chapala? We ordered for delivery to Chula Vista the "Joe Pesci" with pepperoni and sausage and enjoyed it - but I like more sausage. It was a big pizza which surprised us - probably about 16" diameter. Others can probably give you a more accurate size idea. I'm sure he'll delvier to Chapala - his ad says he does.
Kevin K Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Tried Don Vito's tonight on the strength of these raves. We asked for a traditional Pizza Margherita (with basil, tomato and cheese) but what showed up was something they call a "vegetariana." The sauce was sweet as most tend to be here, crust decent but underbaked. 120 pesos. Having tried just about all the pizza places here I'd say it may well be the best delivery pizza available, but it's not remoately comparable in terms of ingredient quality or authenticity to Pizzeria Toscana in Riberas or (a notch down in quality but still good) La Taverna. Vito's is more of a "Papa John's" experience but very good as long as that's what you want. I wish them much success.
Travis Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I would respectfully submit that you not only ordered the wrong pizza, you didn't even get the one you ordered I quit trying to get Pizza Margherita in Mexico a long time ago. It relies so entirely on the quality of the tomato, basil and mozarella.....I'd be surprised if anywhere locally could mount one successfully, consistently. Does Toscana do a decent one? It doesn't have sauce, does it? Anyway, sorry it didn't work out for you. The crust we had the other night was perfectly cooked, and in no way limp. When is anything not a roll of the dice?

Anyway, sorry it didn't work out for you. The crust we had the other night was perfectly cooked, and in no way limp. When is anything not a roll of the dice? I’d suggest that consistency is one of the things that separate the average from the good—and the good from the excellent. Excellent restaurants don’t have to serve haut cuisine, but they do have to hit their standard every time.
Kevin K Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Thanks Marley's Ghost and Travis for your comments. I'd certainly give Vito's another try sometime and am happy others have had pizzas they've enjoyed. As for Margherita, it is indeed the classic Italian pizza that has to be made with a few, but very choice, ingredients to taste good. Toscana offers a more-than-respectable one, though even they deviate from the formula by relying on oregano rather than basil. I have found Toscana to be very consistent, and as you say that is indeed vitally important in the restaurant business. Under-baked crusts are the bane of a pizza lover's existence, and I haven't had that experience there. I try to remind myself as often as possible of just how lucky we are to have all these choices, and all these hard-working restaurateurs vying for our business.
Shira Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 We tried the new pizzeria last night. It was very good but would have like the crust baked just a little more. We had the pepperoni and cheese. Will definitely go back.
sofia Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 We and two other couples finally got to Don Vito's Pizzeria last night. We ordered three different pizzas, all tasted each others and agreed each one was excellent. Service was great and prices very reasonable. We are from Northern NJ (Tony Soprano, pizzeria on every block country) so do know and appreciate a good pie . . . .this was right up there with the best. A family business run by a very nice family.
Guest Gringal Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 I don't know if things have gone downhill, or what, but we got our first pizza at Don Vito's on Sunday night and were very disappointed. The crust didn't have that Eat-It-All texture that Toscana's has. The cheese was no way mozarella; no strings, very thin layer. The sauce was good, though. Afterwards, it didn't set well on the stomach. What happened? Everyone was so excited about the place when it first opened, so we were looking forward to trying it. The family running the place seem to be very nice people, so it's a shame if the quality is slipping. Anyone else unhappy with it?
slumdog Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Ordered one of a weekend. Took two hours to arrive, after several phone calls and lots of apologies. Boring, bland, a minimum of ingredients. Would not order there again. (I do love their creative menu, though.)

I don't think 'Old Blue Eyes" would enjoy the pizza named after him any more than I enjoyed the "Robert de Niro", but it was a cute idea.
thevalerieleigh Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 We mistakenly thought he was North of the Carretera so after walking up the hill towards the mountain and then back down almost to Las Fuentes Carniceria, we found Don Vito. As others have mentioned, it's a nice looking place and the family is indeed charming. We placed an order for 2 pizzas and asked if they could deliver it to us on Javier Mina (just a couple of blocks away). About half an hour later, Pepe arrived with our hot pizzas. We thought the crust and sauce was delicious and while the ingredients were a bit skimpy, the flavor was good. We will go there again but will ask for more in the way of ingredients. For example, I asked for lots of jalapenos when we ordered the pizza and each slice had one jalapeno....I was thinking more along the lines of 4-6 bits of jalapeno on each slice. I'll happily give Pepe the feedback and hopefully he'll add more ingredients to all the pizzas. I can see from previous postings that this has been a criticism made by a few other clients in the past. It is nice to have a place so close in the village who delivers and in our case, quickly. Enjoy, Valerie
