this is for Interlago or anyone else that can help us with information on the necessary procedures to get sportsman guns into Mexico. My husband and I are planning to move to the Lake Chapala area. I have researched and read your many topics and was excited to learn there is a skeet shooting or clay pigeon club north of Guadalajara...or hopefully in the Chapala area. We would love to be able to bring our skeet shooting guns with us. Could you please let us know your email address or phone number so we can call and find out what is necessary to accomplish this. We will be coming by car.

thank you for any help you can give us on this.

You need to pay a visit to your nearest Mexican consulate to find out the rules and required paperwork which they will have to approve before you can bring the guns. It's not easy, but it can be done.

there are certain things one has to give up to move here. rolly is correct. to the great chagrin of howdy the wonder dog ,i decided to give up hunting and sold my guns after researching this question extensively but not on chat boards. check the mexican consulate sites near you and ducks unlimited mexico and anything else you can google. that's what i did to make my decision. i'm gonna do a lot more fishing.

I'm guessing that my tricked out Glock 34PT that I use for Practical is more than a long shot to pass the border with the government's okey doe key. What about bringing ammo ammo and buying a 9mm in the chapala area? I'm an RO.

Hi, Niki

Forget about buying a 9mm here. They are illegal in Mexico. You can buy ammunition for legal calibers and legally registered
guns.

What is a RO? Hansi

An RO is a range officer. I shot with South Florida Pistol Club for a couple years and they got such a kick out of a lady shooting like I do that they sent me to range officer school. You can see me shooting at my You Tube page - nikileejareo. You will also see me competing my grand champion Malinois.

You must not have ammunition of any caliber including shot gun shells in your vehicle when crossing the border into Mexico. Last year two men were arrested for having a couple of shot shells. The shells had tolled under the seat in their truck after a Texas dove hunt and they were found when they crossed the border to dinner. The hunters were locked up and sentenced to time in Mexico.

Alot easier to buy here. More expensive but I assume alot cheaper than doing it yourself. I have heard from guys that have done it that it is a nightmare to do.

Here is the link to the guns available at the gun store in mexico. http://www.laarmeria.com.mx/

The link you show does not have the complete information. It is not the SEDENA link.
LAARMERIA link does not show the requirements for foreigners, ect.
To bring your guns to Mexico and to buy guns legally in Mexico is a very trying experience.
Good luck.

The site I posted is a service that helps people buy guns legally from the only gun store in Mexico which is offered by the army. I imagine you could do it direct but might have to spend a few days in Mexico.
Buying legal guns is a very simple process. There are used guns for sale almost every day in the informador classifieds, but usually more expensive than the new ones. If I remember right all that is needed is proof of address, I think an Fm 2???, A letter stating you are not a felon , and you need to go together with the previous owner to the military instalation in Guad to complete the sale and register the gun in your name.
With the registration you can buy bullets and legally keep the gun in your home. For sport shooting there are other requirements. I have friends that go hunting legally all the time.

At the border they will be as upset with one bullet as a gun. Don't do it. Bullets are zero tolerance here.
