TelMex Infinitum Internet: No more price/download ration?

Was just perusing telmex.com's prices for Internet, because the latest flyer doesn't show any $999 package. The webpage does, but the curious thing is that none of the three packages offered show the speed! http://telmex.com/web/hogar/conexion-internet

I know they've been working hard the last couple of years to fudge their figures by providing "possible top speed" promises... but now they can't even tell us that?

Not only that, but their webpage now shows no indication of a speed difference in any of the three current price packages: "Incluye la conexión más rápida en infinitum*" is listed for all three. You can find a disclaimer that says, after a lot of gobbledy-gook, your top speeds are "potential" speeds.

This is pretty disappointing, considering that many, many other countries are offering much higher speeds, and continue to upgrade the speeds on an incremental basis. Here's truly where lack of competition becomes obvious.

That's probably because it is all DSL. DSL speeds are regulated by the distance from the server to the computer. The longer the distance, the slower the speed

You can't just assign an arbitrary price. And they haven't before. Not to mention, speed stays just fine until it reaches a certain distance from the server with ADSL.

Well, apparently, they can....! ;-) Helps to be a monopoly; still many areas lakeside where other options are not avail.

Yep, and when we live on Mars, and only one company owns all the oxygen that we have to buy, that doesn't make them right. Just greedy. And any new competition will wipe them out.

For years, we have paid for the Telmex basic phone and DSL package, yet our speeds continue to increase and our service is very, very reliable. We have no complaints. I think the package you pay for makes little, if any difference. It seems that you get whatever speed and connectivity is available in your area. We are in Chapala centro and when first installed in 2004, they had to tighten connections from our house to the Telmex facility a few blocks away. We have had solid connections ever since...Ten Years.

Just means the fastest speed they can provide ..... but Telmex will over sell (has in the past) what they can provide. I wouldn't pay more than the 400 or 600 peso packages. Servers are way out there for everyone .... it´s repeaters that make a difference

In general, the maximum range for DSL without repeaters is 5.5 km (16,000 ft).
