Intercasa
So I got a friend request from Tony and then he was chatting and the grammar was strange and then I asked him when did I see him last (knowing I saw him 4 days ago) and the person answered last month and then I asked where and he said Mexico, I said where specifically and then was deleted. Someone is creating fake accounts with real names and pictures so beware of people you know who have few friends, it is a scammer cloning their account. Guest PalapaGirl
My sister had this happen on her account. What is the benefit to the scammer?
k2tog
This recently happened to me and my friends notified me that my account with a different but real picture of me was being used to create a fake Facebook account. I was advised to immediately change my password as well as my photo. This seemed to solve the problem so far. I also changed my password in other online accounts that I access very regularly. Can't ever be too safe.
Ginger
It happened to me 3 times. They took my profile picture, created the account & proceeded to ask all my friends to refriend them. Stupid & a nuisance.
mudgirl
A perfect example of why you couldn't pay me to join Facebook.
Tony_In_Mexico
Spencer, you mean me? If so, nice to know you'd accept a friend request from me However, and please don't anyone take this personally, but I don't friend anyone on FB. Besides a couple of rare exceptions, FB is used solely as an easy way for me to share photos with my family back in the states. A bit of free advice to everyone - as with any computer-related contact, always pay close attention to what you're receiving. Skepticism should be your rule of thumb. Received an unexpected email from a friend? Not an issue if you've thought about it beforehand. Everyone I think might send me an email has been told to write a certain thing in the subject line so that I know it's a legit correspondence. Received an email from a business with whom you work? Always be suspicious. If they are asking you to do anything, like follow a link, or provide a password, or change or update any account info, call them, ask them if it's a legit email. A little forethought and suspicion can save you a world of hurt.
