Taaffe
There will be a public meeting in the Ajijic Plaza today at 6 pm to discuss the paving project for the roads around the plaza. The plan is to fix the water mains and then replace the cobblestones with cemented stones. Please come to listen and provide input on this important issue. Taaffe
I just got back from the meeting and yes, one of the complaints was that there was no notice given on when the project would start; in fact we were told we would have input. The vendors and other interested parties, almost all Mexican, stated their outrage at this taking place during the high season; the vendors will not be able to work during the dusty, noisy repaving. They stated (and wrote on placards) that they categorically did not want anything but the same stones replaced without cement bedding (empredrada ahogada it is called.) A plumber stated that if you cement the stones together, the rainwater won't get to the sub-soil and the whole environment will be impacted negatively. Also the cement will heat up the streets even more. The Presidente Huerta agreed to "see what he could do" to not put cement and to just finish the short church road (La Parroquia) and without cement. Mostly, it was heartening that many people from the community stood up and spoke about preserving their town "exactly the way it is."
lakeside7
If "they" wanted to preserve the town "exactly the way it is." then maybe go back further and ban all SUV's and monster trucks..boy I am glad not to live in the village and have this issue to deal with...when are "they" going to stop high rise and multiple condo/apartment style buildings and ticky tacky gift stores, sadly preservation went out of the window many years ago
Guest bennie2
there are no zoning rules in the town. developers are more powerfulful than a delegate or a mayor.
