annied
We arrive next week and one day I'd like to just pick up a roasted chicken, hopefully with some beans and rice and have an easy dinner at home. Where can we find a good one? We are staying in La Salvia area of Ajijic.
Joyfull
Either Perchugan on the careterra in Ajijic on the mountain side or "Dusty Chicken" which is located just off the careterra on the lake side about a block east of Walmart. Neither have beans with the chicken. You will get tortillas, rice, cebolla (roasted onion), salsa and little salads (sometimes). Perchugan is rotisserie chicken and Dusty Chicken is cooked over carbon. Both good
suegarn
"Dusty Chicken" is not my favourite, only because it tends to be very dry chicken. I prefer Perchugan or Faby Chicken........very moist, and is even good served cold or hot the next day as well!
tycobb1020
Pollo Feliz on the Carretara . . . their beans are to write home about. And I understand the cactus salad is a delight. The chicken is moist, perfectly cooked and delicious.
Shira
Pollo Feliz will deliver. It is very tasty.

gringal
...and the roasted chicken in the deli case at Walmart isn't bad, if you want to make life really easy on yourself in this weather. Tony's across from Paz liquors in the Superlake strip has chicken in many forms, ready to eat. Not bad either. "Dusty Chicken" on the side road is the tastiest, IMO. Al Berca
Lupita's on the mountainside of the carretera next to Farmacia Similares with delicious rotisserie chicken and Dusty Chicken were the originals here long before the franchised operations showed up hoping to put them out of business. Please support and buy local whenever possible.

maw7815
If you are staying in Las Salvias, you can walk to the chicken place on Juarez & the Careterra. Good chicken to go and also get the roasted potatoes-very good! maw
Al Berca
I don't think there is a name outside anymore, but that is Lupita's and I agree with you.
Travis
Pretty sure maw7815 is referring to Pollos Faby. Lupita's is a little further east, also on the mountain-side of the carretera (just west of El Pechugón). Both are roasted chicken. And then there's another no-name BBQ chicken place across the street from Lupita's. The key question is: Pollos Rostizados (roasted/rotisserie) or Pollos al Carbón (grilled, BBQ). No shortage of cooked chicken vendors, here. Feels like there's one on every other block.
Go Solar
Slightly off topic, though relevant to hungry folks / chicken fans traveling a bit further: Great chicken place in Chapala: Rosticeria Puente, across from the 7-11 on the main drag, and 1 block south of the Pemex station. Super flavor and quality, nice sides also. Great chicken also (carbon style) @ Marcos, on the north side of the La Barca highway in Atontoniquillo, if heading to or from Poncitlan / Ocotlan, good place to stop for eat-in or take-out, though a bit close to the busy road...... ComputerGuy
Least-costly, excellent-tasting, spatchcocked/grilled chicken, at Soriana. This type of flattened and BBQ chicken retains the juices more than the rotissery style, AFAIC. The place expats refer to as "dusty chicken" is the most costly, although the price of chicken has gone nuts in the last couple of years. Now, with a new outbreak of bird flu up north, and since Mexico imports a lot of chicken, it will go higher.

midnight
DUSTY CHICKEN! Great flavor, terrific smell! Smelling it is almost as good as eating it! We get lots, eat dinner as soon as we get it home, and freeze the rest- it's also great in soups and in chili.
