suzanjo
OK, keeping it real simple for Immigration 101 for dummies. Is a USA Citizen, a visitor, currently allowed to drive in a USA plated car on a six month Visa? Does one stop at the border, get a visa and allowed to drive on in? Deposit required? Thanks in advance!
giltner68
Yes, although I don't believe it's called a "visa" - only a 6 month tourist whatever. But, you have to also get a TIP or Temporary Import Permit for you vehicle which requires, depending on the year of the vehicle, from $200-$400 "deposit" as you promise to take the vehicle back out of the country. They will return the deposit when you turn in the TIP. It can be done in US cash or credit card (and they will withdraw the amount). You will want to have insurance coverage in MX and to get the TIP you will need a title in your name to present at Aduana at the border.
Shelley Ronnfeldt
Yes. You'll pay and they will give you a sticker to put in your window. Yes, you will pay a deposit and when you leave the country within 6 months you need to stop and have the sticker removed, and the deposit will be returned. You will have to have special auto insurance for driving in Mexico.
