nothernewbie
There was a person from Chapala advertising in the Guadalajara Reporter for lessons either in Chapala or at one's own home. I was interested in contacting him/her and when I got around to it the ads stopped and I have no way to make contact. Anyone know of this person? I am looking for someone who can really speak English and has experience teaching Spanish.

A "safe" place I am sure.

ajijicsolomon
Have you had any response to this question? We are planning on trying him out but would be nice to hear other's experience. Nope, no response. Same here my hubby and I were interested, but were hoping for some feedback before we contacted him. We started the Warren Hardy LCS lessons and they seemed quite good but we are not good at having to be somewhere at a certain time. The classes were comparatively small and the teacher good and price is right. But we thought the idea of someone coming to our home and in private might be better suited to us. Check out Warren Hardy online they do give classes via Skype.
nothernewbie
We have done some WH but, like you, are looking for some personal time that is somewhat flexible.
leem
I highly recommend Liliana Perez for private Spanish lessons. She is very experienced and professional in her teaching methods. In addition, she is a delightful person and her lessons are enjoyable, flexible and fun, as well as productive in learning Spanish. Liliana lives in west Ajijic. Her email address is: liliana.perezaguilar@gmail.com
wdb
A group of us invited Manu to meet with us and give us a quote on conversation lessons. His price was $100/pesos per person, per hour. We tried to negotiate a better rate, since there were 8 of us, and $800p per hour seemed high, and at first he agreed, but later, after some thought, he became very angry at us and accused us of being rude and insulting and refused to work with us under any circumstances. His response was alarming, but I think that could be chalked up to youth, or inexperience, or perhaps a cultural misunderstanding. Private lessons and group lessons are different, but he wanted to charge the same for a group lesson as for a private lesson. I liked him, thought he was smart, though overly-sensitive and emotional. Travis
He wanted $800 PESOS PER HOUR to teach a group class??? That has to be a misunderstanding.

sambrit10
Manu is currently doing a conversation group at LCS on Saturdays at 11 AM. He is trying to make it an intercambio with native Spanish speakers who want to learn English and vice versa. So far there are more English speakers than Spanish. But, it's free and you don't need to be an LCS member, so if you want to take a trial run with Manu, this strikes me as a good way to do it. As far as the 800 pesos an hour group class ... I heard the story from a friend of Manu's and got a completely different take on what was offered and why the negotiations broke down. I wasn't there so don't know exactly what happened, just that there are two sides to that story.
wdb
No misunderstanding. Now, he may have changed his policy regarding pricing, but at the time he did agree to a lesser amount for our group and later became quite agitated that he had agreed to less and backed out of our agreement. BTW, the more reasonable amount was $350p per hour for the group, despite any third hand gossip that you think is a more credible account. Now, I think it is fine if he wants to charge that amount, and he may very well be worth every penny because he seems to be a very intelligent guy, but it was a bit too pricey for us. "If you feel a class of 10 is too large, that is fine. If you want individual classes, couple classes, a four person class, or whatever, I will work to meet your needs. We can meet at your homes or a mutually decided point. It will be on a pay as you go basis, minimizing your exposure. But the cost for each person will be 100 pesos per hour. I am quite certain that you will find it money well spent."

Travis
For anyone who's still interested, I attended Manu's Intercambio Conversation group at LCS today and in my opinion he's very talented. (This was conversation....not formal instruction, but still. Today was about idiomatic expressions - US-idiom and Mexican Spanish idiom - and that is not always easy ground to cover.) I'm really happy with my current teacher, but Manu is definitely worth contacting to see if he is a good fit for you. His US-style English is pretty much perfect, too, which I know can be a huge help. Thanks again to sambrit10 for mentioning this opportunity.
