British trained doctor

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the most appropriate board to post this, so I hope the admins direct the post accordingly.

I am a British trained doctor, and having worked in London since I graduated, I recently moved to Guadalajara with my husband who got a good job offer here.

I did my undergrad from Imperial College London, I have both an MBBS and a BSc.

I am seeking work in Guadalajara, but have no idea how to go about getting a license to practice in Mexico, or what the registering bodies are. My limited command of Spanish is not helping, although I am taking 3 spanish classes a week in order to gain more proficiency.

My question is this:

Are there any foreign trained doctors working in Guadalajara (or anywhere really) that can shed light on how I should go about getting a job as a doctor here?

Thanking you all in advance!

She is already in Guadalajara, so there is no Mexican Embassy or Consulate.

I wowuld assume that she would have to talk to someone at the Medical School at the University of Guadalajara about the possibility of transferring credits and possibly taking additional courses to qualify for a Mexican Cedula. I also assume that she might have to spend the usual year of service in some under-served village before getting the cedula profesional required to practice. Then, she would have to apply for the appropriate permission from INM authorities added to her residence visa, unless she is already a Residente Permanente; in which case she would simply have to notify INM.

Those are my best guesses.

Spencer knows and can help. chapalalegal@gmail.com

Basically the process is same if a foreigner with a professional background applied in the US or Canada. Your credentials are reviewed and certified, then assuming approved, INM will issue a lucrativa visa. I am told at least in GTO state the process is done in GTO city and can take up to a year. Part of the process will include having a cedula issued. For example you will see Spencer as a lawyer has a cedula.... 7928026

I have never processed such an application but have asked INM how one would go about doing so.

To the original poster, it is great you asked as many come here with "professional" backgrounds and just start working.

saludos

Sonia
