I saw a picture of one the other day that they killed in FL. It was 15' long and had fangs the size of a steak knife.

That would keep you dog in meat for the rest of his life and beyond..........

If anyone in Mexico has it, it would be the exotic meat provider in Mercado San Juan in Mexico City. They have everything including lion, tigre, bear, aligator, kangaroo. I can't seam to find their card but shoot my an email so I have your contact and next time I go I'll get the contact and check on it. I may be able to have a friend in DF stop by too.

send me an email to sales@haciendadellagoajijic.com

I'm going to the Mercado San Juan pretty soon. I can check. Is there a big hurry, or is do you have enough for a couple of weeks? If they have it, I can send it via Estafeta.

I recall, from many years ago, an exotic meat vendor on Pablo Neruda in Guadalajara, just east of Av. Terranova and on the right hand side. They may still be there.

As rattlesnakes are not uncommon and are found in the hills to the north and west of us (and, on occasion above Villa Nova) you should speak to the man who is so often seen selling "wild" orchids in the vicinity of the GDL Pharmacy. His family is known to having been called, from time to time, to "do away with" a bothersome rattlesnake which they quickly dispatch and take to their home kitchen. The family hails from mountainous forests of Michoacan and having known members of the family I've been told that rattlesnake occurrences were almost daily and the snake always ended up in the cooking pot. The family (brother and sister-in-law) of the "orchid man" operate a small tienda located on the west side of Calle De Las Flores (which runs south from the Carretera to Ocampo ) It's the street just before the now infamous Don Pedro's restaurant. The last time I know they were called it was to a house in Rancho del Oro on La Montana. The snake was about 5 ft. long and angry. It was the sister-in-law who quickly dispatched the snake. Again, another snake for the pot! Another incident was in Villa Nova just at the top of Cjon. Del Arroyo. This time the snake was actually in a house (gringo owned) but still ended up "in the pot".

I live in Brisas de Chapala, we have had 11 rattlesnakes,(how shall I say this) moved to a better location. You want to find snakes, just start turning a few rocks on the mountain, you will have no problem with your meat needs. That would be if you could kill them, which is against the law.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just went into Mercado San Juan in Mexico City and talked to my exotic meat provider. They do have rattle snake. They have it fresh and they have it dried. It's quite pricey. I believe they told me $2,000 pesos for 100grams of fresh or $1,000 pesos for an entire snake dried. They will ship anywhere

The name of the business is Los Coyotes and they have several phone numbers 55218418, 55184622, 5518 5191, 55122251

I hope this helps.

The more I think about this thread, the more I think the OP was having us on. I notice he/she hasn't posted again, and yet here we are, still talking about it. Rattlesnake meat for dermatitis indeed.

About 30 years ago I was in a Mexican market in Van Nuys,CA and they had a large jar filled with rattlesnakes in some sort of liquid, when I asked about it they told me it was a (remedio casero para ronchas de la piel)a home remedy for skin rashes.
