Jaltepec Centro Educative Hospitality and Hotel Universario just held their first Master Chef "Hands On" Cooking Workshop in their professional demonstration kitchen and mini-kitchens on November 21st. It was a resounding success with guest chef Gerard from well known and loved restaurante La Vita Bella in Monte Coxala as the instructor.

Jaltepec plans on having three to five workshops a year and the next one will likely be in late-January to mid-February 2014 with a different local master chef instructor.

For more information, please email Stacey Hewitt, cruisedirectormex@gmail.com and we will put you on the Cooking Workshop mailing list.

You will not be disappointed, as this is the only cooking workshop Lakeside where you actually get "hands on" experience is professional, fully equipped mini-kitchens of a noted hospitality and hotel school.

Most importantly, the profits go toward scholarships for the more needy students at Jaltepec Centro Educativo.

I have to disagree about Ian's classes...that 'they're for people who know how to cook.'. I went with my husband, because he wanted me to. I had bought him a gift certificate for Christmas. I know how to cook eggs...that's about it. I was absolutely fascinated and in love with this class and will definitely go again. Ian is a very down-to-earth cook and did not talk 'above' us. I did not feel as if I could not make any of the things he was making. In fact, he was so matter of fact about the things that came to him easily (and to me, not so much) that I really feel as if I could do these things! Bill loved it too, and he is a gourmet cook. So...you have two opposite ends of the spectrum who thought this was a great class at a great price. AND...one of the best meals you'll ever have a lakeside. I hesitate to recommend him, because his four monthly classes fill up so quickly that it's hard to get a spot! Wonderful, wonderful time!

I attended one of Ian's classes and I thought it was time and money well spent. I am pretty accomplished for a non-professional chef, and I learned some things; the ability to ask questions at any point contributed to that.

At that class in March, he said that he would not be doing any classes in April, so I expect the next round to be in May.
