La Rueda Coffee/Wine Bar, San Juan Cosala - "Squeaky Wheels" reading

Recommended Posts

La Rueda (The Wheel), a new coffee & wine bar and gallery in San Juan Cosala, is staging the first of a monthly reading series in English to be held the first Wednesday of each month. The inaugural reading will be this Wednesday, February 5th, from 3:30-5. Writers of prose and/or poetry are reading their selections in 5-minute segments, and featured readers (15-minute segments) this week are Judy Dykstra-Brown, Mel Goldberg, and Larry Reeves. For those of you who don't write, the audience is a valuable part of the event, as every squeaky wheel exists only in the ear of the listener; so please come to enjoy hearing an ever-changing selection of lakeside's best writers. (Drinks will not be served during the reading (except at the intermission), so come early to order.)

Directions: At the only stop light in San Juan Cosala, turn towards the lake. Go one block and turn right at the plaza (on Porfirio Diaz.) Drive 2 blocks or so, past Viva Mexico on your right. La Rueda is 1/2 block further west on the right hand side of the road. Look for the large wheel sculpture on its roof and the vine-covered front. If you've been to La Rueda before, you know what a special place this is. It's a bit of a drive for many, but worth the drive. It is 1/2 block from Viva Mexico, a perfect place to go for an early dinner after the reading. La Rueda is run by Kristina Trejo & Isidro Xilonsonchitl.

Please join us for the 7th Squeaky Wheels Reading at La Rueda, San Juan Cosala, Wed. September 3, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Featured readers are Margaret Van Every & Bob Drynan.
Other readers are Larry Kolczak, Michael Warren, Sandi Gelles-Cole, Kenneth Selzmann & Judy Dykstra-Brown.
(There is one opening for a reader. E-mail me (Judy) if you’d like to read. There is actually room for two people as I’m just reading to fill in and will gladly surrender my place.)

Please invite your friends and arrive at 3 to order your coffee, desserts or wine as they will not be served during the readings. A surprise free culinary treat will be offered as well. I’m not telling!

The street that runs in front of Viva Mexico and La Rueda (Porfirio Diaz) is closed for sewer work and re-surfacing, so if you are driving from the east, after the stop light in San Juan Cosala, continue driving a few blocks until you get to the bright orange building on your left (lakeside) and turn left. Park somewhere along this block or take the first right and park as soon as you can. La Rueda is a 1/2 block further west on the street they are redoing, right hand side of the road at Porfirio Diaz 120. Look for the large wheel sculpture on its roof and the vine-covered front.

Viva Mexico may not be open, depending upon how street work is proceeding. Usually we go there for dinner afterwards, but that may not be possible.

Please contact Judy at jubob2@hotmail.com if you would like to read in October or November. The theme for November with be “A Premature Christmas,” so if you have poems or stories about Xmas, that is the time to read them.

A message from Judy about parking tomorrow (Oct. 1 Squeaky Wheels):

I've just been told that although the street in front of Viva Mexico is finished being paved, the intersection between La Rueda and Viva Mexico is completely blocked off in all 4 directions. You can park in front of Viva Mexico if you come in from the direction of the plaza but you will have to back up all the way to the plaza to get out again--although I think a small car could get turned around. it is probably best to park on the Carretera or at the plaza or on a surrounding street and walk to La Rueda.
