maw7815
They are located on Rio Zulu- turn left from the carreterra where you see the overhead green sign for Danza del Sol and you will see the restaurant on the right side. The building looks like an Italian Villa.
JayBearII
First they have to HAVE a profit, then they can donate it. Hope they do well. That is a beautiful location. I remember there used to be a high-end Italian place there a few years ago.
ComputerGuy
So Michael Ritchie is trying again, huh? Well, best of luck to him and this very high-concept venture.
pappysmarket
So Michael Ritchie is trying again, huh? Well, best of luck to him and this very high-concept venture. Is he the gentleman who many years ago had a large restaurant where Lloyds is now, went bust and then opened up another one on the corner of 16th Sept. and Morelos or am I mixing up my folks? kbleitch
I believe the chef in charge is David from Tabarka.
ComputerGuy
I believe his second last place was Tejaban, on Colon not too far from the highway, and then an ill-fated joint where Red Piano is now. He would do his own karaoke, which was very unnerving... but lately hasn't he been singing at Johnny's Mama or somewhere?
pappysmarket
I believe his second last place was Tejeban, on Colon not too far from the highway, and then an ill-fated joint where Red Piano is now. He would do his own karaoke, which was very unnerving... but lately hasn't he been singing at Johnny's Mama or somewhere? Bingo, that's him, you probably don't remember his first place where he also sang and did stand-up comedy and after a couple of nights of this the place was a morgue. Haven't seen him in forever and assumed he had returned to Arizona where he was from.
ComputerGuy
I recall someplace before Tejaban, but that's gotta be like 10 or 11 years now... anybody remember?

pappysmarket
Mike is Candian, a former RCMP. Perhaps then it was his son who was coming from Arizona to cook, leaving a high end place to come to Ajijic. None of his ventures seemed to do well. Maybe if he teamed up with someone like, say, Giovani, they might make a great team.
the walkers
the idea of feeding the poor is great, but there is no money in the restaurant business anywhere in Ajijic right now. where will they be getting profits to buy food for the poor when they have rent--villa d'arte can't be cheap-- and food like steaks and fuel prices for gas and CFE....better use may be to have a donated piece of property and grow gardens of produce....maybe the plants would like to be sung to.... pera
Many thanks for all the enthusiastic and positive comments. Never did Stand up comedy, the Tejaban did not go bust had a 5 yr. lease renewable yearly at our option, however after dealing daily with all the stress we felt it was not in our best interest to continue. The restaurant never once lost money, in fact it made money, did we loose money, yes on all the improvements and on the sale of used equipment that we had purchased new. None of the staff wanted us to close in fact the captain and the bartender who had worked at many different restaurants both will tell you to this day that they made more money working at the Tejaban then any other place they worked. As to the second restaurant I was convinced by a friend of my wife and her boyfriend who was an attny. from Mexico City to go into partnership with them as they had originally opened the place as las Alcatraz and it failed. They agreed to put up half the money and that I would be able to hire the chefs from the States. Bottom line they never put up their share, then tried to have me deported and sued for 6 million pesos, My lawyers told me it was extortion but it would cost a fortune to fight him and I was advised to walk away. He then attempted to keep all the staff but not one stayed not one. I lost a lot of money but they were my decisions and would I ever do it again no way and I am not doing this again. This is a project to help many people who need help and if you need to understand why just read Matthew chapter 25 verse 35 to 40 and you will understand. There are many people involved in this project and in fact since we have started we have recd. more help from volunteers and others wishing to be involved thru donations then we ever had with just the soup kitchens. A very wise man once told me " It takes no skill and talent to criticize the skill and talent is not to" Please help us so that we may help others who so need help. Thank you for having an open and positive mind.
