Lovers of the hamburger-Best at Lake Chapala?

Hi all,

I realize this is totally subjective but thought it would be fun to see what people thought as to the best burger at Lake Chapala. As a new guy to the area and one who could LIVE on burgers, I would like to hear suggestions by others who feel the same. Comparing Boar (best tasting so far but a soggy bottom bun), Lake Taco (skirt steak vs ground meat), Cheers (thick), the hamburger place by Taste of Thai, I would place Cheers on top at this point. Also the most expensive. Magnana has been mentioned but I haven't tried that yet.

The best burger in your opinion?

Mike

Gossip: great meat, nice salad on the side.

Ninette: great meat, but so thick you need to eat it in pieces. Also nice salad.

Bruno: good, and wood fired barbequed. Another good salad.

Tony's: good, big, and you can have a baked potato instead of fries if you want.

(I guess you can tell I'm not a fan of the fries around here.)

Had a really good burger at El Ankla yesterday with (and, yes, this is for you, Gringal)really good fries! The burger comes pretty much plain (just the bun and a dab of mayo), but there is a little burger bar to dress it up some. Condiments included lettuce, tomato, onion, mushrooms, jalapenos, mustard, catsup, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce.) The patty was so thick that i brought half the sandwich home because once i had polished off my fries and eaten half the burger, i was full.

....soo glad you thought of me (lol) when you got those good fries at Ancla. Actually, they are good since I always snitch some from mi esposo. Snitched fries are the best, of course.

They do have a good large burger and the condiment counter is a nice touch.

Mike- This a a controversial subject and comes up often, but that's a good thing because we lose restaurants with such regularity that previous threads like this quickly become obsolete.

The most common burger you'll find here is comprised of mystery meat, which has secret binders mixed into them and cook up sort of beige/gray and have the texture of foam rubber.

For real burgers, the most consistent ones come from Gossips, Tony's, Adelita's, and my favorite which is the aforementioned special at Tom's Bar in Chapala. I'm sure there are others I haven't tried yet, but that's why you posted the question, right?

Thanks to all for the suggestions. That will keep me going for a couple of weeks. Moonhill, I did notice one I couldn't tell what it was, other than not my favorite.

I'm going to write each of these down and give 'em a try. Thanks again all,

Mike

Places all over Mexico serve what I like to call a "hamburgreasa". I have yet to find a place around here to write home about, since Rick's closed, so I want in on this hunt, too. I can attest that Mario makes the best french fries I've had here, as he double-cooks them properly.

Meantime, mhopkins2, if you have a BBQ, pick up the frozen arrechera burgers at WalMart, four to a pack, in the cooler section in the aisle, back where the chicken and steaks are. These are thick, juicy, tasty, and if you load them with toppings, just like Harvey's burgers back home in Ottawa.

My favorites -

Mario's in San Antonio

Arileo on the west side of Ajijic just past the second Pemex station

Agree that Mario's has some of the best fries in the area. Aurelio's has mixed regular and sweet potato fries that are also pretty good.

Also like Adelita's for just about everything and their fries are REALLY good.
