voting midterm elections

Bennie, I scanned and emailed my voter registration materials. I then received a ballot that I downloaded and mailed. My ballot included envelops and a statement to sign. Democrats Abroad in general, and Howard Feinstein in particular, were very, very helpful.

Depends on State. In our Washington county they mail us international first class our ballets. We have someone going north mail them in US. Our county really does it all to help us expats vote. Ask your State or county what they can do to help you. Who knows what they can do unless you ask. We were shocked at how nice they were. Now we are temp visa and legally still live in Washington we just travel a lot is the joke.

There was a message from the Consulate sent out a week or so ago that said we had a couple of days at that time to get voter registration to the consulate to vote in this election.

I thought I read that Bennie is not registered and not being registered a ballot will not be useful.

Democrats Abroad hands out the registration slips and you are free to register with whatever party you want. The Democratic party is helping all voters to register.

Try here to register:

the pages dont move for that site, thats why i dont do any thing on line. waste of time/energy. btw, the machines are "screwed up" in so many states. when people press R it goes directly to D. but never does a D become an R. not surprised that the progressives are running the show @ LCS. guess we are a one party system. (i know that, but its the senate i was concerned about). i will call CS tomarrow to see if there is some time left. dont think so.

In the past, I volunteered with Democrats Abroad for voter registration. I personally helped people from both parties to get registered and their ballots sent to the consulate. The point is to help people to vote. We never asked for party affiliation. I only know some of the people I helped were Republicans because they asked if they could use our services if they are Republicans. Assured that they could, they were happy for the assistance. Luckily for them, they did not wait until a week before the election to do something about it.

Tell that to Al Gore.

You won't be voting by machine. Your vote is mailed to your state and counted if the election is close.

Sadly true.

When serving as an election monitor in Colorado, the Secretary of State's officials at our big polling place told us not to worry much about ballots that appeared to have problems, nor worry about people whose personal information did not fit the official State records - because all those ballots go into a special do-not-count pile, along with the ballots from abroad.

They explained that since officials cannot verify whether the voter from abroad was really who they said the were - or were even alive - they simply do not count these ballots, unless the "normal" ballot counts are close in some election.

In other words, if Sue Gerber gets 247,000 votes and Bill Jones gets 240,000 votes - and there are only 5,000 questionable ballots, then they never even open those foreign and other questionable ballots.

This is one reason to get your ballot early, and have a friend or family member submit it onsite to your local county's vote counting authorities - and not rely on international delivery. Keep your vote out of the "do-not-count" pile.

loscats, articals about this, seek you will find. several states. joco, spoke to someone today. consulate has picked up the votes. looks good for state of mass, judging by the debate & the publics reaction. im not a "republican", but there are several decent ones. whether they can enforce states rights or constitution remains to be seen.

Each state has final registration dates for elections. Those darn progressives usually try to extend the registration right up to election day. In most states it is 30 days before the election. (I have no idea why) So it entirely depends on where you last lived (or voted). Look on the Secretary of State page for that state to see what the final registration date is for your state. The documentation you would need to provide also varies by state, but a passport and proof of residency of some sort is sufficient in most states.

LCS has nothing to do with voter registration except providing a space where non-partisan voter registration can take place.

If you had been registered, you would still have time to request a ballot online and mail it in.

I would respectfully disagree with SnowyCo about counting of ballots in Colorado. According to our County Clerk, all ballots are counted for the final tally. In a close race, they are counted sooner rather than later.

I was an election monitor back in 2004 - and we definitely had a "do-not-count" box of ballots. Colorado was under very conservative Republican control back then, so, it is believable that the policy of not counting all ballots may have changed since then under Hickenlooper et al.

Still, this is an issue that does affect some voting US expats here in Mexico - so, it's best to get your ballot submitted early, and not by the US or Mexican mail.

Proof in the pudding: I had my daughter drop mine off at the Larimer Co. Clerk's office last week.

I always get my accurate, unbiased political news from expat web forums. I especially appreciate posters who can not spell, punctuate or use correct grammar but manage speculation, rumor, innuendo and conspiracy theories just fine.
