basketmaker Posted March 5, 2015 Report Share Posted March 5, 2015 Adobe Studio Announces Raku Classes and Fish Printing Raku Pottery at Adobe Studio Joe Smith, 40 years teaching experience Two Mondays, March 23 & 30, 10am – 1pm. 800p (includes instruction, materials, glazes and firing) (100p deposit to hold place in class) Raku is a six-hundred year-old Japanese tradition of firing pottery by loading pots into a hot kiln and 20 minutes later unloading the glowing hot pots and reloading with more pots. We will add the Western process of placing the red hot pots in combustible materials to bring out metallic sheens in the glazes. Students will have hands-on experience in all steps of the process.Hand-building and wheel-throwing will be taught in the class. No previous experience is necessary, but advanced students are welcome.Raku means "felicity" or "enjoyment". Only the most basic skills are needed and the end results are spectacular! We will be printing on paper and unprimed canvas. If you wish to print on your own clothing please bring your own cotton T-shirt or other cotton article. Instructor: Candace Spence has been an artist/educator for over 20 years and works in many mediums teaching adults and children. Along with having her own children's art camp in San Diego she was an art teacher for several private schools in the U.S., Candace also taught art workshops including Gyotaku at the Children's Museum in Escondido, CA and at the Children's Museum in Louisiana. During her stay lakeside she has organized and lead several collaborate art journal workshops. Class size is limited so register early. $100p deposit is required to hold your place in class.
