Student Financial Aid Summit press release

Student Financial Aid Mini Summit

The Lakeside area benefits from having a number of charities which provide financial aid to economically deprived students who would otherwise not be able to achieve the education and training to which their abilities should entitle them. The Lake Chapala Society believes that these charities possibly could improve their effectiveness and efficiency by cooperating in information exchange, lessons learned and other activities. To this end, LCS will hold a Student Financial Aid Mini Summit to explore this initiative.

The Lake Chapala Society invites representatives of all organizations involved with student financial aid to a Mini Summit meeting at LCS on Nov. 11 starting at 10 am, until 2pm to be held in the sala.

The purpose is to facilitate cooperation which will benefit both the organizations and the students receiving aid.

Those interested should contact LCS to be put on the Summit schedule. Each organization will be invited to give a brief overview (about 10 minutes) of its student aid involvement – purpose, sources of students, numbers of students supported, funding sources (optional), major concerns, etc. Common problems will be discussed and organizations which have found solutions will present them, for the benefit of other organizations. A summary will be prepared and distributed to attendees by LCS.

LCS will also present some ideas to stimulate creative problem solving – for example, identifying all sources of funding, including government, schools and charitable organizations such as Rotary Clubs and distributing this information to student financial aid providers. Another goal could be to form a cooperative to buy school supplies at wholesale prices. If sufficient support exists, LCS will institute an ongoing program to continue this effort. LCS will then hold a full Summit, inviting government agencies, schools, etc. as well as financial aid providers.

For further information, please contact Charlie Smith at chssmith36@yahoo.com or sign up to attend at the LCS office.

If interested in attending, please respond by Nov. 4
